The Talent Set is delighted to be partnering with The Royal College of Midwives (RCM) in their search for a new Interim Director of Communications. The RCM is the professional membership association championing midwives, maternity support workers and midwife students in the UK. They support their members through the provision of guidance, support and advice on professional development, as well as representation should they need it. They are the much-needed voice of midwifery.
This is a 6-month contract initially starting early/mid November 2025.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the evolution of communications within the RCM by implementing and embedding an integrated strategy for internal, external, and membership communications, working closely with the Executive team.
- Embed the communications strategy for the RCM helping shape communications, ensuring buy-in and active engagement across the organisation.
- Lead the communications and engagement team, developing, coaching, and ensuring the team are well structured.
- Build and strengthen relationships with stakeholders and potential partners to add value to members and raise the positive profile of the RCM.
- Identify and maximise opportunities that are beneficial to RCM members and/or to the standing of the organisation.
- Provide inspirational leadership, clarity of vision, excellent support and motivation and be a role model to all staff.
- Help shape marketing approaches and strategy to our membership base.
Person Specification
- Worked at senior comms level within a health/health membership or similar sector environment.
- Extensive knowledge and experience of delivering effective strategic and operational communications support.
- Ability to engage diverse stakeholder groups in person and in writing, making the complex understandable and bringing others on board.
- A proven track record in media relations handling and advising board level.
- Operational experience of delivering core communications and engagement activity, including media relations, digital, publications and events management.
What’s on Offer
The role is paying ÂŁ77,951 plus ÂŁ5,215 if eligible for London Weighting Allowance and offers a wonderful flexible working environment with occasional travel to their offices (London Bridge).
