About the Role
The Youth Worker will support student well-being, behavioural development and student management initiatives within a secondary school environment. The role involves engaging students through individual and small-group interventions, supporting discipline and case management processes, and maintaining accurate documentation.
Key Responsibilities
- Student Support and Intervention
- Work closely with school leaders and teachers to support student well-being and behavioural development
- Engage identified students through individual sessions, small-group activities, intervention programmes and other appropriate engagement strategies
- Provide mentoring and basic counselling support to help students develop coping and self-management strategies
- Identify potential social, emotional or environmental factors affecting students and provide relevant observations to support intervention planning
- Assist in developing, monitoring and following up on behavioural support plans
- Facilitate constructive discussions and reflection sessions with students
- Discipline and Case Management
- Support fact-finding and incident investigation processes, including reviewing CCTV footage and interviewing students
- Record statements and maintain accurate information relating to student incidents
- Support mediation and conflict-resolution sessions
- Monitor student behaviour in designated areas during periods such as recess and dismissal
- Assist school staff in implementing school rules and student management procedures
- Supervise detention sessions and guide students through assigned reflection activities
- Participate in home visits when required and authorised by the school
- Documentation and Administrative Support
- Maintain accurate, timely and confidential student case records
- Prepare reports on student progress, interventions and incidents
- Provide administrative and logistical support for student management processes and programmes
- Communicate and follow up with form teachers, school leaders and other relevant internal stakeholders
Requirements
- Diploma or relevant professional qualification in Youth Work, Psychology, Counselling, Education, Behavioural Science, Social Services, Early Intervention Teaching or a related field
- Demonstrated commitment to supporting and engaging students
- Ability to build rapport with students and facilitate discussions in individual and small-group settings
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to communicate respectfully and professionally with students, parents and school personnel
- Able to maintain clear documentation and case records
Preferred Experience
- Experience working with enforcement agencies, Family Service Centres, residential homes or similar youth-support settings
- Experience in school-based student management, student welfare or youth intervention roles
- Registration with the Ministry of Education’s Registry of Education Manpower System (REMS)
Work Arrangements
The role is expected to require approximately 15 hours per week during the school term:
- Monday: 2.00pm to 5.00pm
- Tuesday: 12.00pm to 3.00pm
- Wednesday: 2.00pm to 5.00pm
- Thursday: 12.00pm to 3.00pm
- Friday: 11.30am to 2.30pm
Service is not required on Saturdays, Sundays and gazetted public holidays. Actual working hours may vary during examination periods based on the school’s operational requirements.
