ABOUT THE ROLE

A primary school in Jurong West is seeking a Student Management Officer to support student well-being, discipline, safety and engagement initiatives.

The successful candidate will work closely with school staff, parents and relevant stakeholders to manage student-related incidents, supervise structured consequence programmes and provide mentorship to students who require additional behavioural support.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Incident Investigation and Consequence Management
  • Conduct objective fact-finding for disciplinary incidents, including interviewing students and documenting statements.
  • Supervise students attending in-school suspension or after-school detention.
  • Prepare incident reports and maintain accurate records of student-related cases.
  • Review offence data and trends and provide relevant updates to school management.
  • Communicate behavioural incidents and related school measures to parents professionally and sensitively.
  • Canteen and Morning Assembly Support
  • Monitor the canteen area before school and guide students to the designated assembly area.
  • Manage and maintain records of students who arrive late.
  • Campus Safety and Community Patrols
  • Conduct regular campus patrols during recess periods and transitions between lessons.
  • Conduct patrols around the school neighbourhood after dismissal, where required.
  • Monitor student attendance and highlight recurring or prolonged absenteeism cases.
  • Support home visits for long-term absenteeism cases together with relevant school personnel, where required.
  • Student Engagement and Mentorship
  • Support the daily operations of the Student Activity Centre during break periods and after school.
  • Organise suitable recreational activities to encourage positive student engagement.
  • Build constructive relationships with students through regular interaction.
  • Provide mentorship to students who require additional support in their behavioural and personal development.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Relevant experience in youth work, education, counselling, social services, student welfare or behavioural support.
  • Strong conflict-management, de-escalation and problem-solving skills.
  • Able to remain calm, professional and appropriately firm when managing challenging situations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for incident documentation and communication with parents and school staff.
  • Able to conduct regular campus and neighbourhood patrols, which may involve extended periods of walking or standing.
  • Comfortable working with primary school students in a structured school environment.
  • Able to maintain confidentiality when handling student and family information.
  • PREFERRED COMPETENCIES
  • Experience working with children in a school, community or youth-related setting.
  • Experience in roles involving safety, discipline, incident management or structured operational environments.
  • Familiarity with restorative practices, positive behaviour support or student intervention approaches.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with educators, social service professionals, parents and other stakeholders.
