ABOUT THE ROLE
A secondary school in the Bartley area is seeking a Discipline Support Officer to support its Student Management Team in strengthening discipline processes and maintaining a safe, structured and respectful school environment. The role involves supporting student incident management, detention and suspension processes, campus supervision, and restorative discipline practices that promote accountability, well-being and positive behavioural development. This is a term-time deployment of approximately 1,500 hours. Payment will be based on the actual hours worked.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist with preliminary investigations, fact-finding interviews and the preparation of incident reports
- Supervise detention sessions held on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays
- Follow up with students who do not attend assigned detention sessions
- Support the implementation of in-house suspension arrangements
- Assist students with preparation for their return to regular lessons following suspension
- Maintain a visible adult presence during recess, lesson transitions and dismissal periods
- Conduct patrols within the school premises and surrounding vicinity
- Support the Student Management Team in managing student behaviour and disciplinary matters
- Apply restorative discipline practices that balance accountability with student well-being and personal growth
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation using basic IT tools
- Work collaboratively with school staff and communicate appropriately with students and parents
REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum GCE 'O' Level qualification or equivalent
- At least five years of relevant working experience in a uniformed service, law enforcement agency, secondary school discipline management role, or a comparable structured environment
- Experience in student management, youth work or supporting youths in a structured behavioural intervention setting
- Familiarity with investigation processes, disciplinary procedures and case management
- Ability to manage challenging student situations in a calm, firm and respectful manner
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a Student Management Team
- Commitment to restorative discipline practices
- Proficiency in basic IT tools for documentation and record-keeping
WORK ARRANGEMENTS
Monday to Thursday: 8.00am to 5.30pm, inclusive of a one-hour lunch break
Friday: 8.00am to 2.00pm, inclusive of a one-hour lunch break
Service is not required on Saturdays, Sundays, gazetted public holidays, Home-Based Learning days or designated school holidays. A minimum of four engagement hours is required on each workday. Payment will be based on the actual hours worked.
