We’re looking for an experienced Smart Buildings Infrastructure Engineer to join a dedicated team based full-time at Gatwick Airport. This is a unique opportunity to play a key role in supporting and maintaining the smart infrastructure of an iconic transport hub.
As a Smart Buildings Infrastructure Engineer, you’ll be responsible for the installation, support, and maintenance of advanced smart building systems, including copper and fibre network infrastructure, Audio Visual systems, Electronic Security, IoT devices, and both wired and wireless networks. You’ll ensure projects are delivered on time, on budget, and to the highest standards of quality and safety. This is a hands-on, varied role where no two days are the same.
To be considered for the role you will need to have:
- A minimum of 3 years’ hands-on experience in a similar ICT/smart tech installation role
- Experience of installing, terminating, and testing copper (CAT-5/6/6A) and fibre optic (OS1/2 and OM3/4/5) cabling infrastructure to industry standards.
- A valid ECS/CSCS Card
- Full, clean UK Driving Licence
- Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety
It would also be desired to have PASMA and/or IPAF certifications, be First Aid trained and have any experience working in an airport, transport hub, or other critical infrastructure site. Any experience installing containment systems (conduit, basket, tray) would also be richly welcome.
Flexibility is key in this role, as occasional night work and overtime may be required to meet project deadlines.
You will be responsible for:
- Installing, terminating, and testing copper (CAT-5/6/6A) and fibre optic (OS1/2 and OM3/4/5) cabling infrastructure to industry standards.
- Installing end-point equipment including Electronic Security systems (CCTV, access control), Wi-Fi & Mobile Access Points, IoT sensors, and Audio Visual devices using appropriate fixings and media.
- Mounting and configuring network equipment in cabinets according to manufacturer's specifications, including servers, routers, switches, controllers, and WAN devices.
- Performing equipment and system patching across network infrastructure.
- Supporting commissioning teams with equipment commissioning, maintenance, servicing, fault-finding, rectification, decommissioning, and relocation.
- Carrying out preventative and reactive maintenance on network infrastructure.
- Diagnosing and repairing common faults in cabling and network systems.
- Conducting infrastructure testing using Fluke testing equipment and Linkware software, ensuring compliance with manufacturer, customer, and industry standards.
- Installing Audio Visual, IoT, Wi-Fi, Electronic Security and networking devices.
- Building and installing network equipment racks and containment systems (tray, basket, conduit, trunking).
- Supporting system commissioning, maintenance, and fault diagnosis.
- Completing documentation and test results to industry standards.
- Complying with all on-site Health & Safety and RAMS protocols.
- Working from technical drawings and scopes to install and support ICT infrastructure.
A competitive salary & benefits, plus overtime awaits the successful applicant. If you’re ready to take your technical career to new heights at Gatwick Airport, we’d love to hear from you.
