SALARY: From Β£35,000, negotiable depending on experience

Technical Designer / CAD Designer required by a well-established bespoke cabinetry and joinery manufacturer in Essendine, Rutland, within easy reach of Stamford and Peterborough. This is a permanent, office-based technical design role covering bespoke kitchens, cabinetry, wardrobes, furniture and specialist joinery, with occasional site visits.

The role is being advertised at Senior Technical Designer level, but applications are genuinely welcome from an experienced CAD Technician, CAD Draughtsmen, Junior Technical Designer or Furniture designer with some design experience who want to step up. Attitude, accuracy and a genuine interest in how cabinetry is made matter more here than a job title.

The company manufactures high-end bespoke kitchens and fitted furniture for premium residential projects, working alongside architects, interior designers and private clients. The Technical Designer sits at the centre of the business, turning approved concepts into fully detailed, manufacture-ready technical drawings and production information.

The role

Producing detailed technical drawings for bespoke kitchens, cabinetry, wardrobes, furniture and specialist joinery
Converting concept designs, survey information and client requirements into manufacture-ready technical documentation
Preparing full production drawing packs including plans, elevations, sections, construction details and component schedules
Producing cutting lists, machining information, component schedules and material specifications
Generating CNC-ready manufacturing data including nesting layouts, machining strategies and tooling specifications
CNC programming for bespoke cabinetry, furniture and joinery components, and operating CNC machinery where required to support production
Maintaining and developing CNC tooling libraries, machining templates, post-processors and manufacturing standards
Reviewing site survey information, verifying dimensions and attending site visits to resolve technical queries
Liaising with builders, architects, contractors, interior designers and clients on technical requirements
Purchasing and ordering workshop materials and consumables including timber, sheet materials, veneers, paint, adhesives and hardware
Working with the Workshop Foreman on stock levels, par levels and supplier performance
Supporting the installation teams with installation packs and site-specific technical information
Managing several projects at once and controlling drawing revisions properly

What you will need

Experience in technical design, CAD design or draughting within bespoke kitchens, cabinetry, furniture, joinery or interior fit-out
Proficiency in CAD software and technical drawing packages - AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Fusion 360, Inventor, Cabinet Vision, AlphaCAM, SketchUp, Vectorworks or similar
A working understanding of cabinet construction methods, joinery manufacturing techniques and workshop processes
CNC programming and CNC machining experience within a cabinetry, furniture or joinery environment, or a strong willingness to develop it
An understanding of materials, finishes, hardware and manufacturing processes
Strong spatial awareness, problem-solving ability and attention to detail
The organisation to manage multiple projects and deadlines
Clear communication and the ability to work across design, production and installation teams

Useful, but not essential

Knowledge of premium residential construction and high-end interior projects
Experience working with architects, interior designers and high-net-worth private clients
Familiarity with project management systems or ERP software
Understanding of UK manufacturing and installation standards

What is on offer

Permanent, full-time position with a respected bespoke cabinet making business
Salary from Β£35,000, negotiable depending on experience
Genuine scope to grow into a senior technical role, with mentoring available for those developing their CAD and CNC skills
Varied, high-quality bespoke projects rather than repetitive volume work
Modern workshop, quality-led culture and a direct line to the senior leadership team

This role will suit candidates currently working as a Technical Designer, Senior Technical Designer, CAD Designer, CAD Technician, CAD Draughtsman, Design Technician, Kitchen Designer, Furniture Designer, Joinery Designer, Cabinet Vision Programmer, CNC Programmer or Setter Operator within bespoke kitchens, fitted furniture, cabinet making, joinery or shopfitting.
