We have an immediate requirement for an experienced Operations Manager to oversee the efficient running of our Operations and Ministries at The Tab Church, London - a transgenerational, multicultural inner-city church with both a vibrant in-person community and a growing national and global reach. This role is responsible for ensuring the smooth coordination, organisation, and delivery of operational and ministry activities that support the church’s Sunday services and key events.
The Operations Manager will lead and support our dedicated operations teams serving across all ministries, working with volunteers, staff, and freelance contributors where required. The successful candidate will implement and manage systems, processes, and workflows that enable staff and volunteers in ministries to operate efficiently and with excellence. This includes overseeing planning cycles, service delivery, resource allocation, and team coordination to ensure the consistent execution of services, events, conferences, and wider church initiatives.
Working closely with ministry team leaders and senior leadership, the Operations Manager will ensure the timely delivery of all activities, supporting work that is meaningful, culturally relevant, and consistently delivered with excellence. This is a key leadership role requiring strong organisational leadership, clear strategic thinking, and a confident leader who thrives under pressure. Key Responsibilities- Leadership & People Management
- Lead, mentor, and develop a multidisciplinary operations team, fostering a collaborative and spiritually nurturing environment.
- Set clear objectives, delegate tasks effectively, and manage performance of staff, contractors & volunteers to ensure alignment with and delivery of ministry responsibilities.
- Build and lead a healthy, values-driven team culture that reflects the mission and ethos of The Tab Church.
- Provide strong leadership, guidance, and support to operational department leads, staff and volunteer ministry leaders.
- Supervise reception staff and administrative volunteers across all sites, ensuring high standards of service and professionalism.
- Serve as an accessible point of support for operational staff and volunteers, ensuring smooth day-to-day operations and issue resolution.
- Oversee supervision, performance management, and appraisal processes for the operations staff, volunteers and ministry teams.
- Identify training and development needs across staff and volunteers, ensuring appropriate training is delivered (e.g., Safeguarding, First Aid, Food Hygiene).
- Manage volunteer support services, ensuring accurate volunteer data and effective administrative processes.
- Services and Key Events
- Oversee the operational logistics and delivery of Sunday services and key events, ensuring a smooth, welcoming, and high-quality experience for volunteers and attendees.
- Work in conjunction with the Production Manager to be present and actively lead operations during Sunday services and key events.
- Lead the end-to-end coordination of weekly services, including setup, flow, timing, and team alignment.
- Develop and execute detailed plans, timelines, and run sheets for key events and special services (e.g. seasonal gatherings, conferences).
- Ensure all services and events run on time, troubleshooting issues calmly while maintaining excellence in delivery.
- Coordinate across teams (production, welcome, and other ministries) to ensure alignment and effective execution.
- Oversee service and event delivery from setup through to breakdown, ensuring consistency, preparedness, and attention to detail.
- Continuously review and improve service and event operations to enhance efficiency, team effectiveness, and overall guest experience.
- Data Management & Reporting
- Produce regular reports on operational and quality KPIs, including recommendations and solutions for improvement.
- Submit monthly operational reports to the Senior Management Team.
- Proactively provide insights on membership demographics, volunteer trends, and engagement to inform decision-making.
- Financial Management
- Collaborate closely with the Finance Department to maintain awareness of operational budgets, ministry budgets, and income generated by departments.
- Adhere to all protocols regarding handling and securing funds on The Tab premises.
- Maintain understanding of operational budgeting and forecasting processes.
- Ensure confidentiality of all financial contributions and sensitive information.
- Manage petty cash requests and payments for the Operations Department.
- Property & Facilities Management
- Oversee authorised and safe access to all Tab buildings.
- Ensure compliance with Health & Safety legislation and workplace wellbeing guidance, escalating concerns as necessary.
- Ensure all buildings are maintained, fit for purpose, and subject to regular Health & Safety audits, with actions tracked and completed.
- Coordinate mandatory annual compliance testing (e.g., CCTV, Gas Safety, Fire Systems, PAT Testing).
- Ensure maintenance volunteers and contractors adhere to reporting procedures, with issues addressed promptly.
- Manage building improvements, contractor bookings, and procurement of quotes.
- Maintain accurate records of equipment purchases, repairs, and disposals, ensuring all equipment is safe and operational.
- Ensure all Health & Safety requirements, risk assessments, and compliance checks are implemented, regularly reviewed, and actioned.
- Oversee all aspects of building management across sites.
- Other Duties
- Participate in staff-wide initiatives, corporate activities, and team meetings, including staff prayer gatherings.
- Perform administrative duties required to fulfil the responsibilities of the role.
- Undertake any additional tasks reasonably required within the scope of the role.
- Uphold The Tab Church’s Equal Opportunities Policy and all other relevant organisational policies.
- Manage DBS applications and provide support to the recruitment team when necessary.
- Proven experience working in a faith-based organisation.
- Proven experience in operations management, project management, or a similar leadership role.
- Strong organisational and planning skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
- Demonstrated experience leading and coordinating teams (including volunteers and staff).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to implement systems, processes, and workflows to improve efficiency.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Experience with event coordination or service delivery.
- Familiarity with budgeting and resource management.
- Experience organising and hosting events or social activities.
- Health & Safety training.
- Experience overseeing Health & Safety or facilities in a multi-site organisation.
- Experience reviewing and managing budgets.
- Comfortable working in a church/Christian environment and context, respect and in sympathy with the Christian faith and values.
