Person Specification

  • Fully qualified General Practitioner.
  • GMC registration with a licence to practise.
  • Included on the NHS England Medical Performers List.
  • Excellent clinical and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Experience working in UK General Practice.
  • Interest in quality improvement and service development.
  • Experience using EMIS Web.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide high-quality, patient-centered general medical services.
  • Conduct face-to-face, telephone and online consultations as appropriate.
  • Manage acute and chronic medical conditions.
  • Participate in clinical meetings and practice development activities.
  • Maintain accurate and contemporaneous patient records.
  • Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to deliver excellent patient care.
  • Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and achievement of contractual requirements.

Job responsibilities

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Provide general medical services to registered patients during scheduled clinical sessions.
  • Undertake face-to-face, telephone and video consultations as appropriate.
  • Assess, diagnose, treat and manage acute and chronic medical conditions.
  • Prescribe medications in accordance with NHS and local prescribing guidelines.
  • Refer patients to secondary care and other healthcare professionals when appropriate.
  • Review pathology results, correspondence and clinical documents.
  • Undertake home visits where required.
  • Promote preventative healthcare and health education.
  • Maintain accurate and contemporaneous patient records using the clinical system.
  • Deliver safe, effective and compassionate healthcare.
  • Ensure continuity of care whenever possible.
  • Support patients in making informed decisions regarding their care and treatment.
  • Safeguard vulnerable adults and children in accordance with local and national policies.
  • Quality and Governance
  • Participate in clinical governance activities.
  • Contribute to Quality and Outcomes Framework (QOF) achievement.
  • Support quality improvement and audit projects.
  • Report significant events and participate in learning activities.
  • Maintain compliance with GMC standards and practice policies.
  • Multidisciplinary Team Working
  • Work collaboratively with GPs, nurses, pharmacists, physician associates, healthcare assistants and administrative staff.
  • Attend practice and multidisciplinary team meetings as required.
  • Contribute to the development of integrated patient care pathways.
  • Administrative Responsibilities
  • Process clinical correspondence, pathology results and prescriptions within agreed timescales.
  • Complete medical reports and statutory documentation when required.
  • Maintain accurate clinical coding and record keeping.
  • Teaching and Development
  • Maintain annual appraisal and GMC revalidation requirements.
  • General Responsibilities
  • Comply with all practice policies and procedures.
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times in accordance with GDPR and NHS guidance.
