As a YouTube thumbnail designer, you will be responsible for developing and captivating click-worthy thumbnails that entice our audience to click, watch and engage with our YouTube content. You will be designing for multiple channels, primarily across Sport and Lifestyle, using your creative flair and understanding of YouTube trends to drive higher clickthrough rates and retention.
Responsibilities
- Thumbnail design: Create bold, engaging thumbnails that grab attention, encourage clicks, and reflect the tone of the content. Utilise image design software (Adobe suite) to execute your ideas
- Audience analysis: Continuously research and analyse YouTube trends, audience preferences and competitor thumbnails to stay up to date with best practices and optimise our thumb strategy
- A/B testing: Conduct A/B testing to determine the most effective thumbnails for our videos and iterate on designs based on performance data
- Performance tracking: Monitor CTRs and audience retention metrics associated with your thumbnail designs and make data-driven adjustments
- Brand consistency: Apply existing brand guidelines where required to ensure consistency
- Collaboration: Work closely with video teams to understand the editorial vision and ensure assets complement and elevate the final output
- Efficiency: Deliver high-quality designs quickly in a fast-paced newsroom environment
What we’re looking for
- Creative eye: Strong visual design skills, particularly in layout, typography, and colour for digital platforms, with a relevant portfolio of work
- Attention to detail: Excellent attention to detail and a keen eye for visual aesthetics
- Software skills: Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator (experience with other Adobe Creative Cloud tools is a plus)
- Data obsessive: Adept at analysing data and making data-driven decisions
- Organised & flexible: Able to juggle multiple projects and adapt to changing priorities
- Team player: Comfortable working collaboratively with editorial, social, and production teams
- YouTube fanatic: Passionate about YouTube and digital platforms, with a keen interest and understanding of the wider creator space
