Part of News Corp, The Sun is a global publisher and one of the biggest news brands in the UK. Our talented and diverse team publishes the best coverage of news, sport, TV, showbiz, and lifestyle.

Your Team: In early 2020 we launched a US edition, and within 18 months became the fastest-growing news site in the US. Although our main office is in New York, we have a growing US hub working out of The Sun offices in London which publishes US news for a US audience, taking advantage of the time difference.

Your Role: We are looking for a Senior News Reporter to work alongside our UK-based Assistant Editor to hit the ground running each morning with the best of US news and set up our New York office for the day. This is a news role, but as part of a small team you will be expected to turn your hand to stories across multiple desks, handling entertainment, lifestyle and consumer lines, as well as more traditional news. This is an incredible opportunity to help shape our future development from the ground up, and to be part of setting the news agenda each day for the-sun.com. It’s a great first step for a more senior reporter hoping to take their first step into editing. The role is based in London. You must be eligible to work in the UK.

Day to day you will:

  • Work with the Assistant Editor to identify early morning trends and breakers for a US audience
  • Write up between 4 and 6 stories each morning based on these trends or breaking news
  • Partner with the Picture and Video teams to ensure visuals are the best
  • Work with US News Editor and Head of News on forward planning and article quality around large events
  • Develop own exclusive story, interview, and video ideas
  • Help oversee breaking news preparation and planning
  • Work on forward planning around upcoming TV, movies and books
  • Occasionally help US news editors brief and edit reporters in afternoons

What we’re looking for from you:

  • Strong experience in journalism and news reporting
  • Experience in leading junior reporters
  • Must have an understanding of audience analytics, social media and SEO
  • On-camera experience not a requirement but a plus
