Your Role
As our Assistant Digital Editor, you will use your background in news production to help grow our audience and elevate the quality of our content. You will be a key leader within our vast team, bringing fresh ideas and directing editorial treatments across multiple sections to ensure The Sun remains the UK's top digital destination.
Day to day you will:
- Edit and polish stories to ensure the highest standards of presentation, specifically focusing on headlines and imagery to maximise engagement.
- Make critical editorial calls on story treatments across diverse subject areas ranging from breaking news to sport.
- Oversee the quality of content by identifying fresh angles and sourcing superior visual footage.
- Manage The Sun's homepage and indexes, using data-driven insights to ensure the perfect balance, tone, and mix of content.
- Lead the digital operation during weekend shifts, acting as the senior editorial authority in the office.
- Liaise with the video department and audience teams to maximise storytelling opportunities across search, social, and multi-platform channels.
- Manage push notifications to ensure our breaking news reaches our readers instantly.
Qualifications
- Proficiency in digital production within a national title or a fast-paced news environment.
- Deep understanding of The Sun's brand identity and how to translate that DNA for a digital audience.
- Ability to identify content opportunities within Google Discover, search trends, and social platforms.
- Experience using video as a core storytelling tool to enhance digital articles.
- Calmness under pressure with the ability to manage multiple high-priority tasks simultaneously.
- Full awareness of media law and the IPSO Code of Conduct.
- Flexibility to work shift patterns across seven days in our office.
