We are seeking a Cook for The Tavern Café & Bar to work alongside a growing team and be a part of food production and service. Your job will require working alongside team members to ensure food production is served to a high standard to all, from farmers in the café to wedding guests.
This role is great for someone with experience or if you have a love for cooking. If you have a passion for food and drink production and service, where better to work than ‘the rural capital of food’? This is a great opportunity to grow alongside the business, or if you have the desire to make the perfect dish every time.
Initially, this is a part-time role with the opportunity for full-time hours.

The Stockyard, nestled within the 160-year-old Melton Mowbray Livestock Market, is a vibrant hub just a stone’s throw away from the town centre. It is a multifaceted space, home to a multitude of businesses and serving as a hub for food and drink production, markets, events, and community activities.
As the Livestock Market advanced into a social and economic powerhouse for Melton and the farming community, the southern market side was relaunched as The Stockyard in 2022. Subsequently, a government funding investment has been secured to develop the site further to create a centre of excellence for Melton Mowbray.
The Tavern Café is located in the heart of The Stockyard, serving homemade breakfasts and specials alongside a bar. Primarily accommodating customers from the prestigious Melton Mowbray Livestock market, as well as Tuesday market visitors and other Stockyard events. The café operates Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 7am until 3pm, as well as special sale dates at Melton Mowbray Market.
Requirements
- Prepare, cook, and present food in a timely and efficient manner to the highest standard that meets customer expectations.
- Contribute to setting the menu, pricing and weekly specials.
- Continue and improve the standards of food production.
- Maintain hygiene levels and safety regulations in the kitchen to guarantee the safety of your team and customers.
- Good planning and organisation skills.
- Be available Tuesdays and Wednesdays and at weekends to cover special sale dates (given in advance).
- Willingness to support other areas of the kitchen when required.
Qualifications
- The ability to cook, prepare, and present food.
- A background in hospitality is preferred.
- Experience in remaining productive in a high-pressure environment.
