Our client is seeking an experienced Lead Commercial Counsel. This senior role sits within the firm’s strategic legal function and provides high-level advice on commercial, operational, and regulatory matters across the organisation. This is an ideal opportunity for a private practice trained lawyer with 7+ years’ PQE looking to leverage their transactional expertise in a strategic advisory capacity within a top-tier legal environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide commercial, pragmatic legal advice to both legal and non-legal stakeholders across the organisation.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate a broad range of complex commercial contracts, including client agreements, supplier arrangements, and strategic procurement projects.
  • Lead and manage high-value commercial and technology agreements, including software, services, and outsourcing arrangements.
  • Partner with senior stakeholders across multiple jurisdictions to deliver commercially aligned legal solutions.
  • Lead and deliver strategic legal projects, ensuring successful delivery from initiation through completion.
  • Provide guidance on risk management and compliance, including regulatory considerations and data protection matters.
  • Develop and deliver internal training and guidance on commercial legal issues and best practices.
  • Support the ongoing development of the legal team by mentoring junior lawyers and contributing to knowledge sharing initiatives.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders across the business to ensure effective legal support and collaboration.

Key Requirements

  • Qualified lawyer (Solicitor, Barrister, or equivalent) with 7+ years’ post-qualification experience.
  • Experience gained within a leading law firm or multinational organisation, ideally with exposure to complex cross-border matters.
  • Strong expertise in commercial contracts, technology agreements, and procurement arrangements.
  • Sound understanding of UK and international regulatory frameworks, including data protection and compliance considerations.
  • Proven ability to lead complex negotiations and manage strategic legal matters.
  • Experience mentoring or supervising junior lawyers.
  • Excellent drafting, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, international environment and deliver commercially focused legal advice.
