We are seeking a Training and Development Manager to lead our staff training initiatives across the entire group. This role is vital in fostering a skilled and motivated team aligned with our company values to excellence. The Training and Development Manager is a senior, hands-on role sitting within the operations team, with customer experience, service and hospitality at the heart of everything they do.
This role is responsible for the development of all people across The Steamhouse, from entry level team members through to site leaders and future managers. As the business continues to grow rapidly, this role will build, lead and embed training, development and people frameworks that support both exceptional customer experiences and scalable growth.
With over 150 team members across 10 outlets and the main bakery, and with the planned growth for the next year, this is a key role in shaping the culture, capability and consistency of the business.
Key Responsibilities- People Development and Training
- Own and lead all training and development across the business.
- Design, create and implement structured training plans for all levels of the organisation that are scalable as the business grows and ensure cross department knowledge in our teams.
- Build and maintain a clear training matrix including but not limited to onboarding, core skills, revenue optimisation, hospitality standards, health and safety practices and leadership development.
- Ensure training plans support both day to day operational needs and long term growth projects.
- Continuously review and improve the training content to reflect brand standards, customer feedback and business priorities.
- Take a hands-on approach to training soft skills with our Front of House teams.
- Work with Head of Food to ensure all health and safety standards are adhered to in the kitchens and the bakery.
- Ensure new starters are onboarded consistently and effectively.
- Support managers with coaching, feedback and performance development tools.
- Coordinate the review process ensuring all learning objectives are followed up, and carry out the annual performance cycles, assisting managers to complete.
- Identify skills gaps and proactively address them through training and development plans.
- Source and implement external training courses where applicable.
- Stay up to date with industry best practices and any employment law changes.
- Customer Experience and Hospitality
- Champion hospitality and customer experience across all sites.
- Embed a consistent, high quality service culture throughout front of house teams.
- Work closely with operations to ensure training translates into real, measurable customer experience improvements.
- Support site teams to understand how great people development drives great guest experiences.
- Leadership and Culture
- Support the development of site managers, supervisors and future leaders.
- Help build a strong internal talent pipeline as the business expands.
- Act as a trusted partner to the operations team on all people related matters.
- Play a key role in shaping and protecting The Steamhouse culture during periods of growth.
- Projects and Growth Support
- Lead people related projects linked to new openings and expansion.
- Create scalable systems and processes that will work as the business grows.
- Ensure people frameworks remain practical, usable and aligned with day to day operations.
- Full Clean Driving License and Own Transport.
- Proven experience in a training or development role ideally within hospitality but strong applications from other customer facing sectors will be considered.
- Must be able to demonstrate a strong understanding of customer experience and service led businesses.
- Experience creating and delivering training programmes and development plans, building training matrices and competency frameworks.
- Ability to work cross functionally with operations teams.
- Experience in evaluating metrics and customer service data.
- Confident communicator and presenter who can engage teams at all levels.
- Highly organised, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and projects.
- Experience supporting a growing or multi site business in an operational capacity preferred.
- High levels of engagement with acumen for on-the-job training and building a service culture.
- Based ideally within Warwickshire, Worcestershire or Oxfordshire but must be Midlands.
