The States of Guernsey are looking for a Midwife to join the team based on Loveridge Ward. As a Midwife, you will be responsible for delivering autonomous, evidence-based, and woman-centred care throughout the pregnancy continuum, ensuring the highest standards of clinical practice are always maintained.

Acting as an advocate for women and their families, the role involves:

  • Assessing physical, psychological, and emotional needs
  • Planning, implementing, and evaluating individualised care
  • Monitoring both maternal and neonatal wellbeing

You will work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, communicating effectively to support informed decision-making and ensuring that care remains safe, responsive, and tailored to diverse needs. Accurate documentation, adherence to professional standards, and compliance with medicines management and clinical guidelines are essential components of the role.

In addition to clinical responsibilities, you will contribute to service delivery, quality improvement, and professional development within the maternity setting. This includes:

  • Participating in audit and research-informed practice
  • Supporting education and mentorship of colleagues and learners
  • Engaging in safeguarding processes to protect vulnerable families

The role requires maintaining up-to-date clinical competencies, promoting effective communication across teams, and upholding legal, ethical, and professional standards, including confidentiality and equality. You will also play an active part in developing and reviewing policies and practices to ensure continuous improvement in care quality and patient outcomes.

You will be expected to participate in the on-call rotas for the maternity unit and be aware of your own, and others, accountability and responsibility and work within the NMC Code.

As a minimum, you will be a registered Midwife with a valid NMC registration, have completed a UK preceptorship programme, have at least 6 months Intrapartum experience with both high and low risk service users, have a valid NLS qualification and be competent in suturing and cannulation.
