We are seeking a proactive Teaching Assistant to provide specific 1:1 support for a pupil in Year 3 with a diagnosis of Autism (ASD), alongside delivering small group interventions for the wider class. The focus of this role is to help the pupil access the curriculum, manage their daily routine, and develop their independence, while also boosting attainment for other children through targeted academic groups.

Key Responsibilities

  • 1:1 Support: Support a Year 3 pupil with ASD in accessing learning. This includes managing transitions, implementing sensory breaks, and utilizing visual timetables to reduce anxiety.
  • Academic Support: Deliver daily 1:1 and small group sessions in Phonics, Literacy, and Numeracy, following the teacher's planning.
  • Social & Emotional: Support the pupil’s social interaction with peers during break times and group work, modeling positive play and communication.
  • Interventions: Lead small intervention groups for other Year 3 pupils to close gaps in reading and maths.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with the Class Teacher and SENCO to review Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and adapt resources to suit the child’s specific learning style.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who is patient, resilient, and passionate about inclusive education. You should have:

  • Experience working with children with Autism and an understanding of sensory needs and potential triggers.
  • Confidence in delivering Phonics sessions (knowledge of Little Wandle Phonics is desirable).
  • Strong numeracy and literacy skills to support Key Stage 2 curriculum content.
  • The ability to build a strong, trusting bond with a specific child while maintaining professional boundaries.
  • A team-player attitude, essential for working in a small school environment.

Other Information

The role is 25 hours per week, to be worked 9-12:15 daily and 3 afternoons until 3:15pm term time only. This is a fixed term role linked to an EHCP, currently thought to end in July 2028.

The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Due to this post having access to children and/or vulnerable adults, candidates will be required to undertake a Disclosure and Barring Check.
