Our audience comprises tech professionals, business leaders, and decision-makers seeking timely and authoritative information to navigate the ever-evolving tech landscape.
The Stack is seeking a highly motivated and experienced News Editor to join our team on a fully remote, 12-month freelance contract. We are looking for a player-coach, who is happy to split their time between writing and editing and who will be responsible for the day-to-day management of our news output, ensuring timely, accurate, and engaging coverage of key developments in the business technology sector and keeping a finger on the pulse of the pressing issues of CIOs, CTOs, CISOs and their industry peers across the stack.
You will play a crucial role in shaping our editorial direction, working closely with freelance writers and contributors to deliver high-quality content that resonates with our audience.
- Story assignment and commissioning: Develop and assign features and analytical articles to freelance writers, providing clear briefs, deadlines, and editorial guidance.
- News writing and editing: Lead by example in identifying, writing and editing a strategically selected and multimedia mix of breaking news, interviews, and longer form articles.
- Content Editing and Review: Thoroughly edit and review submitted articles for accuracy, clarity, grammar, style, and adherence to The Stack's editorial standards.
- Publishing and Platform Management: Oversee the timely publishing of news articles on our content management system Ghost, strategically identifying what to hold back for a weekly newsletter, and ensure optimal presentation across all platforms including social media.
- Contribute to the development and management of the news editorial calendar, ensuring a consistent flow of relevant and timely content.
Proven experience (3+ years) as a news editor or senior reporter, preferably within the business technology or related sector. Exceptional editing and proofreading skills with a keen eye for detail. Excellent news judgment and the ability to identify and prioritize impactful stories. A passion for delivering high-quality, engaging news content.
