About the role

We are looking for an experienced Autism Support Worker to work alongside the teacher to deliver a personalised autism friendly academic and social skills curriculum, and to support families in implementing functional skills within the home and community at our Calne site.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver a personalised autism-friendly academic and social skills curriculum.
  • Support families in implementing functional skills within the home and community.
  • Lead interventions and provide support to learners with autism.
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils, families and colleagues.
  • Promote inclusion of all pupils in learning and social skills activities.
  • Use positive and personalised anxiety management strategies.

Required skills & qualifications

  • Good knowledge and understanding of autism and social communication needs and appropriate strategies.
  • Knowledge and understanding of social, emotional & mental health needs and cognitive needs that affect children and young people’s development.
  • Excellent listening skills.
  • Ability to build strong, trusting relationships.
  • Resilient and able to take regular responsibility for agreed learning activities.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with teachers, support staff and families.
