About the role
We are looking for an experienced Autism Support Worker to work alongside the teacher to deliver a personalised autism friendly academic and social skills curriculum, and to support families in implementing functional skills within the home and community at our Calne site.
Responsibilities
- Deliver a personalised autism-friendly academic and social skills curriculum.
- Support families in implementing functional skills within the home and community.
- Lead interventions and provide support to learners with autism.
- Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils, families and colleagues.
- Promote inclusion of all pupils in learning and social skills activities.
- Use positive and personalised anxiety management strategies.
Required skills & qualifications
- Good knowledge and understanding of autism and social communication needs and appropriate strategies.
- Knowledge and understanding of social, emotional & mental health needs and cognitive needs that affect children and young people’s development.
- Excellent listening skills.
- Ability to build strong, trusting relationships.
- Resilient and able to take regular responsibility for agreed learning activities.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with teachers, support staff and families.
