The Spectator is one of the world\’s oldest and most prestigious magazines. Renowned for its incisive commentary, engaging features and thought-provoking opinions on politics, culture and current affairs, The Spectator has a proud history of fostering great journalism – and is now building on that legacy with new products, expanded digital coverage and innovative ways to engage and grow our audience around the world.We are looking for freelance sub-editors to work across its British and US editions, including newsletters and production.Applicants will be experienced sub-editors who have worked at a national newspaper or for a digital publisher for at least five years. You must be able to edit and check copy, write headlines to a very high standard and have a good working knowledge of InDesign.Responsibilities

  • Sub-edit copy and write headlines and furniture to a high standard in line with The Spectator\’s style guide
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines
  • Work across all The Spectator\’s platforms, when additional resources are required

    Strong sub-editor who can work across digital and print platforms with a proven ability to edit copy quickly, accurately and to the highest standard

  • At least five years\’ experience as a sub-editor on a national newspaper or news website, with an interest in current affairs and politics
  • Excellent knowledge of InDesign
  • A good understanding of media law and industry regulations
