We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Phlebotomist to join our healthcare team. The successful candidate will be responsible for collecting blood samples from patients safely and efficiently while providing a high standard of patient care and maintaining strict infection control procedures.

Main duties of the job:

  • Perform venepuncture and capillary blood sampling on patients of all ages
  • Ensure correct patient identification and accurate labelling of samples
  • Prepare samples for laboratory analysis in line with protocols
  • Maintain high standards of hygiene, infection control, and health and safety
  • Reassure patients and provide clear explanations of procedures
  • Record and update patient information accurately
  • Dispose of clinical waste safely and appropriately
  • Report any adverse reactions or incidents promptly
  • Maintain stock levels and equipment cleanliness

Requirements:

  • Certified Phlebotomy training or relevant healthcare qualification
  • Previous experience in a phlebotomy or healthcare role
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work calmly with anxious or vulnerable patients
  • Good attention to detail and organisational skills
  • Knowledge of infection control and confidentiality standards

About us:

Our Nursing Team currently comprises Lead Nurse, 2 Senior nurses and 2 Health Care Support workers, and a Nursing Associate. The team has a range of ages and is a friendly and cohesive team within the wider practice. We care for 10,800 patients in and around Droitwich, with a wide-ranging clinical team of GPs, Paramedic, Clinical Pharmacists, First Contact Physiotherapist, Pharmacy Technician, Mental Health Practitioner, and supportive admin team. We are a training practice supporting trainees across the breadth of medical training including Medical Students from the 3 Counties Medical School, Nursing Students from Worcester University, and GPs in their Specialist Training years. We work closely with our Neighbourhood Nursing Team who are based within Droitwich Medical Centre, and are part of the Droitwich, Ombersley and Rurals Primary Care Network.

Job responsibilities:

This is a new role which will sit within our Nursing and Health Care Support Worker team. We are looking for someone to work 4 days per week for approximately 3 to 3.5 hours each day and are flexible on the exact hours of work provided they are between 8am and 3pm.

  • Perform venepuncture and capillary blood sampling on patients of all ages

Person Specification:

Qualifications:

  • Successful completion of an accredited Phlebotomy training course
  • Certificate in Venepuncture and Capillary Blood Sampling
  • Basic life support (BLS)
  • Understanding of infection prevention and control procedures
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work calmly with anxious or vulnerable patients
  • Good attention to detail and organisational skills
  • Experience of working in EMIS Web
  • Good Team player
