You’ll have a strong understanding of platform behaviour, content performance and what makes social-first ideas cut through.

You’ll work closely with clients and internal teams to plan, create and deliver social content, helping to shape strategy and analyse performance while ensuring day-to-day activity runs smoothly and effectively. You’ll be responsible for managing social channels and campaigns across your accounts, balancing creative thinking with strong organisation, attention to detail and a commercial mindset.

As a Social Media Manager at The Social Shepherd, you’ll manage the day-to-day organic social strategy for your client accounts. Sitting within our Organic Social team, you aren’t just managing accounts, you are driving strategies that encompass Channel, Community & Content. You will act as the day-to-day lead for key clients, partnering closely with our Client Services and Creative teams to ensure our work is both world-class and results-driven. This role will report to a Social Media Director while directly managing and mentoring a Social Media Executive.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead the development and evolution of cross-channel organic strategies (TikTok, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.), ensuring every piece of content serves a clear purpose and contributes to wider client objectives.
  • Constantly optimise performance by monitoring platform trends and updates, proactively adapting strategies in real time to keep clients ahead of the curve rather than reacting to it.
  • Line manage a Social Media Executive, overseeing their workload and providing the support, guidance and mentorship needed to develop their skills and confidence.
  • Take an active role in team development, running regular 1:1s, fostering a positive team culture and ensuring your direct report feels supported, challenged and inspired.
  • Collaborate on client reporting, moving beyond vanity metrics to deliver meaningful analysis and actionable insights that demonstrate the value of organic social.
  • Support the Social Media Director on ownership of client KPIs, continuously refining content and channel strategies to meet and exceed growth and engagement targets.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

  • 3+ years experience managing organic social media for brands. While agency experience is preferred, you’ll be confident working in a fast-paced, multi-client environment.
  • A genuinely social-first mindset. You don’t just use social media, you understand it. You have a strong knowledge of platform nuances across TikTok, Reels, Stories and Comments, with a clear understanding of what makes content resonate and stop the scroll.
  • A creative thinker who can back up your ideas with logic. You enjoy the challenge of ideating content that lands culturally and hits specific business KPIs.
  • Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to proactively manage multiple projects across and deadlines.
  • A natural curiosity for social platforms, trends and evolving behaviours. You stay ahead of platform changes, algorithm updates and emerging features, and can confidently adapt strategies to maximise opportunities for clients.
  • High levels of ambition and drive, with a genuine passion for producing best-in-class social work that delivers impact for both audiences and brands.
  • Strong communication and relationship building skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across clients and internal teams. You’ll also bring the enthusiasm and leadership potential to support and mentor more junior team members as the team grows.
