Sirius Geotechnical works as both a standalone consultancy as well as an integrated part of our contracting teams. Our expertise ensures development risks are managed effectively and compliantly, giving clients peace of mind. We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Geotechnical Technical Director/Associate to join our geoenvironmental consultancy team based in Durham or Leeds. This is a senior leadership role requiring both advanced technical expertise and the ability to guide, develop, and grow a high-performing team. You will have a strong track record in geotechnical design, project delivery, and technical leadership, with a minimum of 10 years’ post-graduate experience in geotechnical and/or geoenvironmental consultancy.
Requirements
- A strong academic background in a relevant discipline (e.g. Engineering Geology, Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or similar).
- Chartered status with a relevant professional body (e.g. ICE, Geological Society).
- Hold RoGEP (UK Registered Ground Engineering Advisor) accreditation or eligibility to obtain.
- Working knowledge of CDM Regulations.
- Detailed knowledge of UK geology, including principal soil and rock strata, and the ability to log in accordance with:
- BS EN ISO 14688-1 & 2:2018
- BS EN ISO 14689:2018
- BS 5930:2015+A1:2020
- Comprehensive understanding of UK standards, Eurocodes (particularly EC7), and relevant geotechnical guidance and legislation (e.g. CIRIA, NHBC).
- Extensive experience in:
- Shallow and deep foundation design
- Settlement analysis and ground movement assessment
- Slope stability assessment and retaining structure design
- Earthworks design and specification (including Highways Specification Series 600 & 800)
- Working platform design (e.g. BRE guidance)
- Strong understanding of soil and rock mechanics and their practical application.
- Experience in ground improvement techniques and feasibility assessments.
- Experience in coal mining risk assessment, remediation and liaison with the Mining Remediation Authority.
- Experience in contaminated land risk assessment and integration with geotechnical design desirable.
- Ability to undertake and review advanced numerical modelling (desirable but preferred at Director level).
- Experience using industry-standard geotechnical software such as:
- PLAXIS (2D/3D)
- Settle3D
- SLOPE/W or equivalent
- Experience of geotechnical input to major earthworks, ground stabilisation projects and infrastructure projects, particularly highways schemes (e.g. CD622, CD225) is desirable.
Conditions of Employment
- Full-time position based in our Durham or Leeds office / hybrid working considered / site visits as required.
- 35 hours per week.
- 24 days holiday plus 8 bank holidays with the option to purchase up to an additional 5 days.
- 5% Employers pension contribution, and 3% Employee Salary Sacrifice.
- Must have a full, clean driving licence.
- Mileage rates to be paid inline with HMRC fuel rates.
- Company Car or Allowance on Band C Salary negotiable, dependent on experience.
- After 3 months continuous service, you will receive private healthcare for you and your immediate family.
