General Manager — The Barnsdale, Rutland
Some places are easy to fall in love with. The Barnsdale is one of them. Overlooking Rutland Water, with its courtyard, quietly lovely bedrooms and a kitchen that lets local produce shine, it’s the kind of hotel guests return to — and teams are proud to be part of. We’re now looking for a General Manager to lead it—someone who enjoys the rhythm of a busy hotel, cares about the detail, and knows how to create an atmosphere that feels both effortless and considered.
The Role
No two days are quite the same — and that’s part of the appeal. You might start the morning walking the hotel with fresh eyes, spend the afternoon shaping ideas that drive the business forward, and finish the day chatting to guests who don’t quite want to leave. Along the way, you will:
- Guide and support a team of Heads of Department — setting the tone, offering direction, and keeping everyone moving together
- Keep a steady hand on the commercial performance of the hotel, spotting opportunities and making them happen
- Ensure the experience feels just right — welcoming, polished, and never overdone
- Build a team that people want to be part of (and stay part of)
- Balance the bigger picture with the finer details — from guest feedback to forward planning
- Work closely with our Managing Partner and Central Support Team
About You
You’re experienced, certainly — but more importantly, you’re thoughtful in how you lead. You’ve spent at least five years in a senior operational role within a good quality hotel or Inn with rooms. You’re calm when it’s busy, organised when it’s complex, and positive throughout. You understand the numbers — but you also understand people. You notice the small things (and know they’re rarely small). You lead in a way that feels natural, not forced. And you take pride in creating something that feels… just right.
What We Offer
We think carefully about the experience of working with us too:
- Great salary - to be discussed on application and interview
- GM Bonus scheme
- 28 days’ holiday (including Bank Holidays), plus your birthday off
- Training, development and clear opportunities to grow- with the chance to help implement our new Learning and Comms platform at the hotel
- The chance to move within the wider Signet Collection
- Discounted rates across our restaurants and hotels for you, family and friends to enjoy
- Stream - access up to 40% of your pay before pay date, and save directly from your salary
- Your Wellbeing Hub - powered by Hospitality Action, from a 24/7 employee assistance programme, to gym classes, to nutritious recipes, to clinical counselling
- Referral bonus scheme for recommending top talent - earn up to £1000
- Long Service Awards - dinners for two with all the trimmings, complimentary room stays with breakfast and dinner, theatre tickets to see The Lion King, and so much more
- Complimentary meals on shift
- Supplier trips, workshops and industry experiences
A Few Final Words
We don’t do overly formal or overly fussy — but we do care deeply about how things feel. At the Signet Collection, hospitality is warm, confident and quietly detailed. We’re looking for someone who brings that same balance — someone who knows when to step in, when to step back, and how to make it all come together.
