The Shore Group has been retained by a Tier 1 Main Contractor to appoint a Divisional Operations Director to lead and develop a high-performing Construction & Retrofit division.
With an exceptional reputation for delivering complex commercial office refurbishments, retrofit and cut & carve projects across London, the business continues to secure some of the capital's most technically challenging and prestigious schemes for leading developers, investors and occupiers.
As the business continues to expand its major projects portfolio, they are seeking an experienced operational leader to take ownership of project delivery across the division, driving performance, developing teams and helping shape the future growth of the business.
The Role
Reporting directly to the Board, you will take full operational responsibility for a portfolio of major projects and provide leadership across multiple Project Directors and senior delivery teams. You will be responsible for ensuring the successful delivery of complex commercial office refurbishment, retrofit and cut & carve schemes, overseeing projects from pre-construction through to completion while driving operational excellence, programme certainty, safety, quality and commercial performance.
Working closely with the wider leadership team, you will play a key role in project selection, pre-construction strategy, resource planning and business growth, ensuring the division continues to deliver market-leading projects for its clients. This is a highly visible leadership role offering the opportunity to shape operational strategy and influence the direction of one of the industry's most respected construction businesses.
This role offers the rare opportunity to combine the scale and complexity of flagship London retrofit and refurbishment projects with the autonomy, visibility and influence of a genuine divisional leadership position, providing a clear pathway towards executive and board-level progression.
The Opportunity
This opportunity is ideally suited to an ambitious operational leader currently working within a Tier 1 contractor, major construction business or specialist refurbishment contractor who is looking to take ownership of a significant project portfolio and play a more influential role in business leadership. You will lead the operational delivery of some of London's most complex commercial office retrofit, refurbishment and cut & carve schemes while helping develop teams, strengthen client relationships and drive business performance.
For individuals looking to move beyond project-level leadership and take responsibility for a major division within a market-leading organisation, this represents an exceptional career-defining opportunity.
Requirements
- A proven track record leading the delivery of major commercial office retrofit, refurbishment and cut & carve projects valued at £25m-£100m+.
- Experience gained within a recognised Tier 1 contractor, major main contractor or specialist refurbishment business delivering complex commercial construction projects.
- Strong operational leadership experience across structural reconfiguration, demolition, temporary works, façade retention, CAT A office delivery and refurbishment of existing commercial assets.
- A proven ability to oversee multiple live projects simultaneously while maintaining programme, quality, safety and commercial performance.
- Experience managing projects within occupied buildings, constrained city-centre environments and technically challenging live operational settings.
- A strong understanding of project delivery risk, programme management and stakeholder coordination throughout the lifecycle of complex refurbishment projects.
- Experience leading large multidisciplinary teams including Project Directors, Construction Directors, Design Managers and Commercial teams.
- A track record of influencing projects from pre-construction, logistics planning and procurement through to successful completion and handover.
- Strong client-facing capabilities with experience managing relationships with developers, asset managers, consultants, occupiers and institutional investors.
- The leadership capability and ambition to contribute to divisional strategy, business growth and operational excellence at a senior leadership level.
