Are you an enthusiastic and motivated individual with an interest in the insurance industry? We're excited to welcome a new Underwriting Assistant to our dynamic Americas team! This role is an excellent starting point to dive into the world of P&I insurance and gain hands-on experience in the principles and practices of underwriting. As an Underwriting Assistant, you’ll play a vital support role, working closely with our Underwriters to ensure efficient and timely assistance across various tasks. This entry-level position is perfect for a recent graduate or someone with around a year of experience in the insurance industry, eager to build a foundation in the maritime and insurance industries, with opportunities to learn from experienced professionals.

Overall responsibility of the role: To provide administrative support for the underwriting team in delivering a liability solution to cover the operational needs of the Members.
Role Responsibilities:
- To provide a high level of service to Members through the prompt and accurate preparation of Members’ documentation, highlighting any service issues upwards.
- To advise account handler of outstanding premium position before documentation is produced and released in accordance with the Underwriting Procedures Manual.
- To develop and maintain good working relationships at peer level within Brokers.
- To deal with queries by telephone, letter, or email from external parties and ensure prompt resolution.
- To ensure that service levels are maintained during the absence of colleagues, answering basic queries and referring upwards the need for any technical response.
- To participate in training sessions to develop the skills and knowledge required for the effective performance of the role.
- To ensure sanctions screening has been undertaken on Members, other named parties and all vessels, and any hits resolved, prior to binding cover or processing.
Experience required:
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to prioritise and organise workload in order to meet tight deadlines.
- Strong listening skills and a willingness to learn.
- Working knowledge of MS 365.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively as part of a team.
- Graduate level (or equivalent).
- Candidates must be eligible to work in the UK.
