As a SEND Advisor you will work closely with curriculum areas to offer advice and support regarding students with SEND. You will work with and support curriculum staff to use their skills to adapt and develop materials which are accessible to learners with SEND and promote Quality First Teaching.
The Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) Advisor will work closely with the transition and progression coordinator to ensure the needs of students with special educational needs and disabilities that is below the high needs threshold.
Main Responsibilities:- Advising and guiding curriculum and pastoral staff providing support to students with low and medium need. This will require regular communication with both the Personal Tutors and the Student Mentors.
- Responsible for assessing the support requirements of low and medium need students by conducting an initial assessment and producing a Support Plan on Promonitor that will be shared with curriculum teams.
- Referring complex medium and low needs cases to the Transition and Progression Coordinator team for consideration to be recategorized as high needs.
- Ensure the staff responsible for learning understand the students support plan and the interventions, differentiation and Quality First Teaching can be provided by the curriculum teams.
- Understand and share methods to promote student Independence through SMART target setting and will ensure targets are set by the curriculum area to support SEND students in their preparation for adulthood.
- Ensure the targets are tracked and met and any risk of a student falling behind made clear to the Transition and Progression Coordinator.
- Ensure that the college provides inclusive interventions in line with the SEND code of practice and allied Acts.
- Collate and store exam access arrangement evidence for low and medium needs students. This will involve ensuring the evidence is available, a file note is complete and where necessary that a referral to the SpLD team has taken place.
- Ensure that a Exam Access Arrangements for high needs student in your cohort have the evidence for such arrangement and that the exams team is aware to make the application.
- Ensure the completion of all necessary additional paperwork is completed by the curriculum area and provide advice and guidance on the completion of Inclusive Risk Assessments.
- When required SEND advisors to capture disclosure of medical or medication needs and ensure this is referred to the appropriate internal and external agencies.
As the successful candidate, you will be offered a salary of between £33,160- £37,283 per annum based upon a combination of the skills, knowledge and experience that you can bring to the role.
