Health & Safety Specialist, Telford up to £41k

My client is an engineering company who have been in operation for a number of years.

With an excellent reputation within their industry, they are looking to recruit a new member to their team.

The successful candidate will ensure a safe, compliant, and high-quality working environment within the plant by developing, implementing, and monitoring health and safety systems.

You will ensure legal compliance and reduce operational risks associated with the company and its processes.

Key Areas to cover

Health & Safety

Compliance: - Ensure compliance with HSE legislation (HSE regulations, COSHH, PUWER, LOLER).

Maintain up to date knowledge of safety and quality standards.

Conduct regular audits of plant operations, equipment, and quality processes.

Risk Assessment & Control: - Carry out and review risk assessments for processes.

Develop safe systems of work (SSOW) and SOPs integrating safety and quality controls.

Monitor effectiveness of risk and quality control measures.

Incident & Non-Conformance

Investigation: - Investigate accidents, near misses, and quality non-conformances.

Produce detailed reports and corrective action plans.

Track trends to support continuous improvement in safety and quality.

Training, Awareness & Competence: - Deliver HSEQ inductions and training for employees and contractors.

Promote a strong safety and quality culture across the workforce.

Ensure staff understand hazards and quality requirements.

Hazard & Process

Control: - Monitor workplace conditions including chemical exposure, heat, fumes, and manual handling.

Ensure appropriate PPE is used and maintained.

Oversee process checks such as bath chemistry, flux quality, and coating consistency.

Emergency Preparedness: - Maintain emergency response plans (fire, chemical spills, burns). Coordinate drills and ensure emergency equipment readiness.

Documentation, QMS & Record Keeping

  • Maintain accurate safety records.

Manage risk assessments, method statements, permits to work, and quality documentation.

Prepare reports for management, customers, and regulatory bodies.

Skills & Experience: - Proven experience in a Health & Safety within manufacturing, heavy industry, or metal processing.

Strong knowledge of health and safety systems.

Experience with hazardous environments (chemicals, heat, heavy machinery).

Strong communication, training, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

Qualifications: - NEBOSH General Certificate (essential). NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent (desirable).

Key Competencies: - Attention to detail and process discipline. Proactive risk management. Strong organisational and documentation skills. Commitment to continuous improvement.
