The CNC Engineer's role involves supporting the Toolroom in manufacturing spares and modifications for a variety of Press Tools. The candidate will be responsible for the programming and operating of 2 Hurco CNC machining centers and 1 Charmilles EDM machine. The candidate will also need to understand and use the Vero 3D CAD/CAM package.
The second part of this role is to support the production CNC machining centers within the business and improve the OEE around these, as well as support the CNC setters within this area. This position would suit a CNC machinist that has worked within a production environment producing batch parts and who also has knowledge of Press tool manufacture.
Job Accountabilities:
- The jobholder must be reliable and a good timekeeper, as the role is fundamental to the efficient operation of the department.
- Responsible for the day-to-day running of the CNC machines and producing items to the CAD drawings provided, making relevant changes to the CAD drawings where needed and updating the files.
- To ensure the best utilisation of machine times is achieved and that instructions are left for the next shift if applicable.
- To plan the workload with the Toolroom Manager on a job-to-job basis and ensure this is carried out by yourself and your team.
- To liaise with the Toolmakers within the Toolroom and support where needed.
- To support the Toolroom Manager in any spares or breakdown requirements that are detrimental to keeping production in the factory going. This may mean working past your shift.
- To report any faults with the CNC machines or mistakes made to jobs that are being machined to the relevant members of staff or the Engineering Director.
- You may be asked to work extra hours to cover illness and holidays in your area if required.
- To ensure that the correct training is given to an Apprentice that is placed in your care.
- To support in production issues on the production CNC machining cell and assist in the training of the operator in this area.
- To provide support to the Robot Engineers on the production CNC machining centers if required.
- To ensure the area is kept clean and tidy and all scrap is placed in the correct bins.
- To ensure that all CNC engineers are wearing the specified PPE in the area before allowing work to commence.
- To ensure that any Health and Safety hazards are identified and reported and that you adhere to the company’s Health and Safety, Environmental and Quality Policies and procedures and that all the staff in your area also do so.
- Communicating with persons inside and outside of the organisation in the most efficient manner to ensure accurate provision of information. This can be in person, by telephone or via email.
Job Context:
- To support the Toolroom in the manufacture of new tooling when required.
- To support the Toolroom with the manufacture of any spares that are required.
- To support the production CNC machines within the business.
39 hours per week: 7.30am to 4.30pm Monday to Thursday & 7.30am to 12.30pm on Friday. Competitive rates of pay. Company pension scheme.

Qualifications / Knowledge:
- Forklift license would be an advantage but not essential.
- Lifting and slinging qualifications.
- Grinding wheel regulations.
- Knowledge of Visi CAD system (would be advantageous).
- EDM Machining.
- City and Guilds in Setting and Programming or NVQ equivalent.
- Knowledge of Press Tooling.
- Knowledge and understanding of batch produced CNC machining.
