I am seeking an innovative and highly motivated
Digital and Social Media Communications Officer
to join my fast-paced communications team. We are already well placed with print and local media, but the world has changed since I was first elected. I am looking for support on the digital side and for someone full of ideas, energy and technical skills to join us for a few months. PLEASE NOTE:

IMMEDIATE START.

SHORT TERM CONTRACT
- as There is a Scottish Parliamentary Election next May unfortunately I cannot offer contracts beyond that period, though extension to a more permanent roles may be possible subject to how it all pans out.

HOURS:
Advertised as full time, but there may be options for reduced or part time.

HYBRID
- You will be required to work both in our Edinburgh office ( we can\'t cover commuting costs) and from home too.

Please note: I also work from my office on the West Coast of Scotland and much of my parliamentary activity takes place there so you will be required to attend there too. So it helps if you drive, but not essential.

THE PAY
- I will do what I can to be competitive within the limits of the statutory bandings which I am obliged to remunerate on.

TO DO WHAT THOUGH?

You will be at the forefront of my office\'s public engagement, responsible for translating parliamentary messaging and output into compelling, accessible digital content across all social media platforms, in a way that builds public trust and awareness in our work.

This is a dynamic role requiring a keen news sense, political awareness, and a finger on the pulse of the latest social media trends and TECHNICAL DIGITAL SKILLS (and that doesn\'t simply mean you can use an app on your phone to clip a video, add subtitles and chuck it onto Facebook. Even long-in-the-tooth politicians have learned to do that themselves these days.)

DAY TO DAY STUFF

  • Strategy & Planning:
    Develop and implement tour office digital channel strategy (though you wont have or need to spend much time on a \"plan\", we prefer just to get on with it).

  • Content Creation:
    Create engaging and accessible written, photographic, and video content to communicate with constituents across my Region. leveraging digital tools like Canva or Adobe Creative Suite.

  • Production and tech skills:

You aren\'t afraid to use cameras, film, shoot, music, light and edit. The whole package. We have some kit, if you have your own that\'s great too.

  • Content ideas
    : Content in everything isn\'t it? So you will be brimming with enthusiasm for digital, social media, and live and breath content creation. Pester me for videos, know what works on which platform, and be responsible for a pipeline of output.

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

  • Experience:

Proven experience in a digital role or demonstrable digital skills and experience. that could be a working role, a side-line, a passion or cause, political experience, or other forms of public interest content creation.
- Skills:

Strong written communication, an eye for design, and hands-on experience in content creation and video editing.
- Knowledge:

A strong understanding of AND INTEREST IN the UK political landscape, government or political communications, and the ability to digest complex information quickly.
- Attributes:

Proactive, innovative, and comfortable working independently in a high-demand environment. I don\'t micro manage in any way shape or form, so this is a good chance for someone to shine.

FINALLY

As part of the recruitment process, which will be quick, you will be asked to complete a digital task to allow you to showcase your talents and skills. All new staff are also subject to vetting, this may take some time but you may be able to WFH in the meantime. You must have right to work in the UK, already be in the UK, and ideally be in Scotland or OK with living in Scotland for the duration of the contract, so no entirely remote working I am afraid. .
