The Scottish National Investment Bank is seeking an experienced Associate Director - Investment Portfolio Management to play a key role in the active management of the Bank’s patient capital investment portfolio.

As an Associate Director in the Portfolio Management team, you will support post-investment management across a diverse portfolio of equity and debt investments. You will monitor financial performance and mission impact at both individual investment and portfolio level, while helping to shape value-creation strategies over long development and commercialisation timelines.

This is a senior opportunity within the Portfolio Management function, working closely with Investment, Impact, Risk, Finance and Operations colleagues to support post-investment stewardship, manage risk, and maximise long-term financial and mission outcomes for Scotland across a diverse portfolio of investments, with a focus on housing.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage a diverse portfolio of equity and debt investments, including monitoring financial performance, mission impact and covenant compliance.
  • Build effective relationships with investee management teams and attend boards as an Observer where required.
  • Provide regular performance and risk reporting to the Executive Director - Investment Portfolio Management and the Asset Management Committee.
  • Work closely with the Impact team to ensure mission impacts are tracked and reported in line with investment agreements.
  • Collaborate with Investment colleagues to ensure post-deal management considerations are embedded in investment documentation.
  • Coordinate with Investment Operations to manage fund flows, including drawdowns, repayments, dividends and fees.
  • Partner with Investment Risk and Finance teams to manage underperforming investments and support turnaround strategies.
  • Apply specialist sector knowledge to assess progress against complex technical, regulatory and development milestones.
Key Skills & Experience
  • You will bring previous post-investment or asset management experience, combined with the judgement and curiosity required to support innovation-led businesses operating over long time horizons.
  • Experience in investment origination, post-deal management or asset management, across equity and/or debt.
  • Deep understanding of one or more specialist sectors, including the ability to assess technical and commercial development milestones.
  • Advanced knowledge of sector-specific financial modelling and valuation, particularly in high-uncertainty environments.
  • Experience conducting rigorous technical and commercial appraisals, including feasibility, scalability and IP considerations.
  • The ability to analyse market trends, innovation developments and competitive dynamics to shape portfolio support.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the confidence to engage credibly with senior management teams and internal committees.
  • A collaborative approach, working effectively with risk, finance, operations and impact colleagues.
  • A degree qualification, with a professional qualification (e.g. CA, CFA or similar) highly desirable.
