Overview

We are looking for two Statistical Support Analysts to join the Statistical Promotion and Analysis team in the National Records of Scotland (NRS) on a 12-month, Fair and Open, fixed term contract (with the possibility of extension). The Statistical Promotion and Analysis team is responsible for driving innovation and improvement in statistical outputs.

In this role you will work with team members and other stakeholders to develop and embed Reproducible Analytical Pipelines (RAPs) across NRS, to help deliver our vision. This role is central to modernising the way we produce official statistics and analytical outputs.

Responsibilities

  • Identify opportunities to enhance analytical processes by developing Reproducible Analytical Pipelines (RAPs), thereby improving efficiency and optimising resource use.
  • Design and develop Reproducible Analytical Pipelines using R and Git.
  • Automate the production of official statistics and analytical reports in line with the Government Statistical Service (GSS) RAP principles.
  • Collaborate with statistical teams and stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into robust, automated workflows.
  • Ensure code quality, version control, and documentation standards are upheld.
  • Contribute to the development of internal RAP standards, guidance, and training materials.
  • Provide coaching and support to statisticians to develop RAPs

Qualifications

Candidates need to provide evidence of one of the following:

  • A minimum of a 2:2 undergraduate degree or a master’s degree or PhD, demonstrating how your qualifications contain formal training on statistics or data; Or
  • Sufficient experience in a statistics or data related field as well as a minimum of a 2:2 undergraduate degree or a master’s degree or PhD.

Technical / Professional Skills

  • Strong programming skills in R for data analysis and automation of statistical tasks and processes (Ability to use R and R packages to improve efficiency, accuracy, and reproducibility of statistical tasks and processes)

Experience

  • Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders.

Behaviours

Working pattern

Our standard hours are 35 hours per week, with a range of flexible and hybrid working options depending on the needs of the role.
