CMAL owns ferries, ports and harbours and infrastructure necessary for vital ferry services serving the west coast of Scotland and the Clyde Estuary, and the Northern Isles. It is wholly owned by the Scottish Government with Scottish Ministers the sole shareholder. It has an executive management team and support staff at headquarters in Port Glasgow. It aims to provide safe, efficient and cost-effective ferries, harbours and port infrastructure for operators, communities and users in and around Scotland. This is a period of real opportunity, as CMAL supports Ministers in the delivery of £580 million of investment in vessels and infrastructure to support island connectivity. It is also a period of change, with consideration being given by Ministers to the corporate structures of the organisations which deliver ferry services on their behalf.

Skills And Experience

We are looking to fill a specific role on the Board.

Essential Criteria

  • Ability to reflect the needs of island communities and converse in Gaelic
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills – including experience of team‑working, constructive challenge, collaboration, and stakeholder management
  • Strong analytical and decision‑making skills
  • Understanding of the role of the CMAL Board and its responsibility to Scottish Ministers

Remuneration is £354.90 per day for a time commitment of three days per month (36 days per year). Reasonable expenses incurred will be reimbursed. The appointment is non‑pensionable.
