Orkney NHS Board serves 22,000 people across 70 islands, with 800 staff and an annual budget of £85m. The Board is responsible for delivering high‑quality, person‑centred care and improving health and wellbeing.
Role Summary
We are looking for a non‑executive board member who can apply their knowledge for the benefit of the Board and who has the capacity and commitment to grow into the role. As a non‑executive member you will contribute fully to the work of the Board, including participation in governance committees, maintain public confidence, support strategic direction, provide scrutiny and assurance, uphold ethical standards and promote a healthy organisational culture.

Applicants will be asked for the following in their application:
- A Statement of Interest explaining why you are interested in being part of the NHS Orkney Board, maximum 250 words
- Evidence against Essential Criterion 1 ‘Orkney Resident with demonstrable experience of living and working as part of the local community’ using no more than 500 words.

Remuneration and Time Commitment
With effect from 1 April 2026, non‑executive members receive £312 per 8‑hour working week, paid monthly (non‑pensionable) and reasonable expenses. This equates to a salary of £16,224. You must be able to make a firm commitment to spend at least 8 hours per week (52 weeks per year) on Board business, averaged out across the year with some weeks needing more time and some less.
