Overview

Non-executive Chair of SPPA Management Advisory Board (MAB). The Scottish Government is seeking talented non-executives to join the SPPA Management Advisory Board to work closely with the Chief Executive and the Executive Team.

The Scottish Public Pensions Agency (SPPA) supports people who have dedicated their working lives to serving the communities of Scotland and is delivering on public service improvements, McCloud Remedy, automation and a digital-first approach. The MAB supports the Chief Executive Officer and Executive Team in strategic planning, governance, performance, risk management and corporate issues, helping to inform decisions with transparency.

Responsibilities

  • Advise, assist and support the Chief Executive
  • Chair the Board meetings and lead the Board, ensuring effective delivery of its functions
  • Agree and support the Board’s approach to sub-committees where necessary
  • Ensure the Board considers reports from established committees
  • Undertake other activities as required by the SPPA Chief Executive (e.g., attending performance meetings with the Portfolio Accountable Officer)

All Board members, including the Chair, are expected to:

  • Engage with papers and attend Board events regularly in person or remotely
  • Understand the Agency’s operational environment and provide an external perspective
  • Contribute to the Board and committees on strategy, performance, risk management and resources
  • Support the Agency through ad-hoc advice, working groups and project boards where practical
  • Comply with the SPPA Code of Conduct for Non-Executive Members
  • Take part in the annual appraisal process and contribute to the Board self-assessment

Skills and Experience

  • HR/Workforce planning including equality, diversity and inclusion
  • Knowledge and/or understanding of pensions industry
  • Financial management and performance experience
  • Executive-level public sector experience
  • Experience of chairing executive meetings

Remuneration and Time Commitment

  • £320 per day for a time commitment of 10-15 days per year

  • Non-pensionable non-executive appointment
