This role is part of the Marine Directorate and focuses on providing specialist scientific advice on marine birds, particularly seabirds, in the context of marine renewable energy development.
Responsibilities
- Support the Senior Marine Ornithologists in producing scientific advice and guidance on seabirds within the Scottish Government.
- Identify key ornithology knowledge gaps and support research that addresses these constraints.
- Prepare clear communication materials for internal teams and external stakeholders.
- Identify and pursue opportunities to secure external income for marine ornithology work.
Qualifications
- Minimum of a relevant BSc (Hons) or equivalent work experience.
Success Profile
Technical / Professional Skills: Communicating Science and Engineering for Government – Practitioner level; Broad Thinking – Practitioner level.
Experience
- Good understanding of seabird ecology and/or population biology, with familiarity in collision risk modelling, displacement assessment and population viability analysis.
- Experience of ecological research with an ability to critique scientific methods and results.
Behaviours
