We are looking to appoint individuals with expertise in Primary Care, Digital Transformation, and Clinical Governance. In addition, we seek individuals with breadth of experience, insight and judgment to contribute effectively to strategic decision‑making and to provide constructive support and challenge at Board level.
NHS Fife is one of 14 territorial NHS Boards in Scotland, serving a population of around 375,000 people, employing over 9,500 staff and managing an annual revenue budget of over £1 billion. The Board’s role is to provide strategic leadership, ensure effective governance and accountability, and oversee delivery of performance and outcomes across the organisation.
As a Non‑Executive Member you will play a vital role in upholding high standards of governance and transparency, supporting a positive organisational culture, and ensuring that the interests of patients and the public remain at the heart of decision‑making.
Responsibilities- Ensure that the public body delivers its functions in accordance with Scottish Ministers’ policies and priorities.
- Provide strategic leadership.
- Ensure financial stewardship.
- Hold the Chief Executive and senior management team to account.
- Participate in the Board’s governance committees, the Fife Health & Social Care Partnership’s Integration Joint Board, and the Fife Health Charity.
- Engage with staff, patients and stakeholders across Fife to support continuous improvement and public confidence.
- Attend board meetings held at Victoria Hospital, Kirkcaldy, and contribute in virtual sessions as required.
The Board meetings are held at Victoria Hospital, Kirkcaldy. A blend of virtual and physical meetings is expected, with a physical presence required to carry out the full range of Board activities across Fife.
Remuneration and Time CommitmentThe remuneration for these three roles is based on 1 day (8 hours) per week at £312 per day. The rate is £16,224 per annum, non‑pensionable, rising to £342 per day in April 2027. Reasonable expenses incurred will be reimbursed.
Security ChecksSuccessful candidates must complete the Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS). For higher security clearance, candidates may be required to obtain National Security Vetting at Counter‑Terrorist Security Check (CTC), Security Check (SC), or Developed Vetting (DV) levels, with minimum UK residency periods of 3, 5, or 10 years respectively.
