To provide support to individuals to help them find work, and signpost them to other local agencies/organisations as appropriate, i.e. DWP, CAB etc.

Responsibilities

  • Establish what support is required to help client seek and gain employment
  • Help clients create an email account and Universal Jobmatch account
  • Advise on and edit client CVs and help clients to fill out job application forms, both online and paper-based
  • Provide one-to-one support with computer use
  • Conduct mock-interviews with clients
  • Signpost clients to other agencies as required
  • Undertake administrative tasks as appropriate

Person Specification

  • Interest in Salvation Army’s work
  • Ability to keep confidences
  • Good listening and empathy skills
  • Reliable and regular commitment to our drop-in sessions
  • Understanding of Universal Jobmatch website would be advantageous, although not essential as training can be given
  • Confident using the internet, Microsoft Office and Google documents
  • Computer literate and basic knowledge of setting up computer equipment
  • Commitment to safeguarding and protecting vulnerable adults and a willingness to raise concerns where necessary
  • Ability to keep confidences and be sensitive to peoples’ circumstances

Time commitment

The time commitment is 3hrs per week and will be agreed with the Community Programme Coordinator, but we can be flexible to meet your circumstances. Shift pattern 10am-1pm or 1pm-4pm Monday to Saturday.

Training & Support

The Salvation Army provides an induction/basic volunteer training via I-Learn portal or at a training day as well as ongoing training as required. We also offer ‘taster’ sessions to see if our volunteer role is a good fit for your skills, experience and interests.

Volunteer expenses

The role is unpaid, but reasonable expenses incurred can be paid with prior agreement of the Community Manager.
