POSITION PURPOSE SUMMARY:
This position provides direct front line supports to the individuals in the Shelter Programs.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Enforce rules and regulations of The Salvation Army Community Services Centre Mat Program and Emergency Shelter.
- Maintain a sanitary environment as per Daily/Weekly cleaning list ensuring to record completed duties.
- Maintain a safe and comfortable environment for all individuals accessing services.
- Complete intake work (i.e., HIFIS documentation and statistical documentation).
- Ensure facility is secure and individuals are monitored (i.e., completing health and bed checks).
- Serve meals following direction from Shelters kitchen. Follow all OHS and safe food handling guidelines as per Health Canada.
- Assist Protection Officers by monitoring guests for alcohol & checking for drugs & weapons.
- Ensure all policies and procedures are followed as per The Salvation Army policies manual.
- Complete entries each shift in the communication log.
- Other duties as required.
CRITICAL RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT
Governance Boards and Councils: Internal:
- Maintain communications between individuals accessing services.
- Maintain communications between other Client Support Workers and Management.
External:
- Maintain communications between outside agencies such as Alberta Health Services when requiring assistance for individuals.
FINANCIAL AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT:
- Responsible for ensuring all food and meals are handled properly under all Alberta guidelines.
- Responsible for ensuring all cleaning supplies are properly organized and labeled when custodian is absent.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Working environment is typically in generally agreeable conditions.
- This position requires a moderate amount of keyboarding/manual record keeping and those served by the program may relate information that is highly disturbing in nature and will require intentional debrief and consultation.
- The incumbent may be exposed to the following disagreeable conditions:
- stressful situations, including dealing with erratic and sometimes antagonistic behavior
- verbal abuse
- work schedule affecting lifestyle
- exposure to bodily fluids, bodily waste
- exposure to drugs and alcohol
- The incumbent may have little to no travel required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, Qualifications and Certifications:
- Completion of High School diploma
- First Aid/CPR
- Alternative combination of education and experience may be considered
Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements
- Experience providing support to vulnerable individuals an asset.
- Kitchen Experience/Food Handling Certificate an asset.
- Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector check will be required upon hire.
Skills and Capabilities:
- Willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
- Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
- Computer skills an asset for completion of mandatory online training.

This is a temporary six (6) months fixed term employment contract.
Scheduled weekly hours: 40 hours
Target hiring range for this position is min. $23.27 to mid at $29.09 and max at $34.90 per hour.
Compensation:
The target hiring range for this position is $23.27 to $29.09 with a maximum of $34.90. Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
