Position Purpose Summary: The groundskeeper maintains the cemetery grounds for two Salvation Army cemeteries in the Town of Grand Bank and the Salvation Army Cemetery in the Town of Fortune as well as the external grounds of the Salvation Army Citadel, Thrift Store and Corps Officer’s residence in the Town of Grand Bank.
Accountabilities:
- Ensures the general upkeep of external property such as mowing lawns, picking up litter, sweeping sidewalks, gardening/watering and planting shrubs, pruning and weeding and raking.
- Services external amenities.
- Picks up equipment and supplies.
- Ensure proper storage and basic maintenance of equipment.
- Be responsible for managing your own time.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Health and Safety:
- Use personal prescribed safety equipment and clothing as directed by the employer.
- Report any workplace hazards, dangers, safety issues, injuries, or illnesses immediately and ensure care is taken with all equipment and property.
- Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
- Performs other work-related duties as assigned.
Working Conditions:
- Work environment is typically performed outdoors.
- The performance of the job requires operating industrial equipment and tools, reaching, bending, twisting, lifting and fine motor skills.
- Requires moderate to high attention when handling hazardous chemicals and using non-motorized/general cleaning equipment.
- Ability to lift/move up to 25 pounds.
- Position requires significant walking and lifting.
- Requires working in various weather conditions.
- Use gloves.
- Use ear/eye protection (goggles).
- Use steel toe boots.
Education, Experience and Qualifications:
- Willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
- Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
Education, Qualifications and Certifications:
- Must be willing to obtain a Criminal Police Check.
- Complete the Statement of Applicant for Work with Children Youth and Vulnerable Adults.
- Must sign the Code of Conduct Receipt & Acknowledgement Form.
Experience and Knowledge:
- Up to 1 year of prior related experience in lawn maintenance and general familiarity with lawn equipment.
- Knowledge of Health & Safety Standards.
Skills and Capabilities:
- Represent the organization in a professional, and engaging manner.
- Ability to work independently and also participate as an active and responsible team member in a cooperative team environment.

This is a temporary part-time position ending September 11, 2026.
Compensation: The target hiring range for this position is $16.35 to $19.50 with a maximum of $22.64. Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role. The Salvation Army will provide reasonable accommodation upon request.
