The Safety Net Foundation is launching a print-on-demand merchandise shop to generate sustainable income. We’re looking for a volunteer to set up and support a simple online store (e.g. Shopify).
This role will help The Safety Net Foundation create a sustainable, low-risk income stream that directly supports our charitable work. As a small and growing charity, unrestricted funding is one of our biggest challenges. Setting up a print-on-demand merchandise shop allows us to generate ongoing income without the financial risk of holding stock or relying solely on grants and donations. Every item sold helps fund mentoring, support, and opportunities for people from underrepresented and lower socio-economic backgrounds to build careers in health and safety.
By setting up and supporting our online merchandise store, the volunteer will enable the Foundation to:
- Generate regular, unrestricted income to support our core activities
- Increase public awareness of the Foundation through branded merchandise
- Engage supporters in a simple, practical way to show their support and contribute financially
- Reduce reliance on short-term funding and one-off donations
The volunteer’s work will have a long-lasting impact. Once the shop is established, it can continue generating income with minimal ongoing effort, meaning the time invested delivers value well beyond the duration of the role. Clear processes and handover guidance will ensure the Foundation can manage the shop independently in the future.
Beyond income, this role helps strengthen the Foundation’s visibility and credibility. Wearing or using Safety Net Foundation merchandise helps spread awareness of our mission, spark conversations, and reach people who may not otherwise encounter our work.
Ultimately, this role supports the Foundation’s long-term sustainability, allowing us to focus more time and energy on delivering impact where it matters most supporting individuals who might otherwise lack access, confidence, or opportunity to progress in the health and safety profession.
What are we looking for?
- Someone comfortable using e-commerce platforms (Shopify, Big Cartel, Etsy, etc.)
- Experience with print-on-demand suppliers is helpful but not essential
- Organised, practical, and able to work independently
- An interest in supporting charities or social impact organisations
- Happy to volunteer on a flexible, low-time-commitment basis
- At least three years experience in market research, campaigning and event management desirable
What will you be doing?
- Setting up an online merchandise store (e.g. Shopify or similar platform)
- Integrating a print-on-demand supplier (no stock handling required)
- Uploading and managing a small range of branded products (e.g. t-shirts, mugs, tote bags)
- Supporting basic shop setup (payments, product descriptions, policies)
- Advising on simple pricing to ensure income generation for the charity
- Providing light-touch ongoing admin
- Handing over guidance and documentation so the Foundation can manage the shop independently (or continue to manage yourself)
