The role will involve reviewing the codebase and technical documentation, advising on hosting and deployment, supporting launch, and helping shape the platform’s development. This is a chance to play a major role in a mission‑led organisation and help bring a unique digital offering to life.

Help us take ownership of a newly built mentoring and community platform by reviewing the codebase, advising on hosting and deployment, and supporting the launch and ongoing development of a digital platform that will widen access, mentoring and social mobility in the health, safety and allied professions.

What are we looking for?

  • Solid practical experience in one or more of the following:
  • Web application deployment and hosting
  • Cloud/VPS infrastructure
  • DNS, domains and subdomain configuration
  • Reviewing and taking over existing codebases
  • Platform maintenance and technical documentation
  • Working with developers or external technical suppliers
  • Advising non‑technical stakeholders in plain English

The ideal person does not need to build the whole platform from scratch, but they do need to be comfortable reviewing an existing delivered product and deciding what is needed to get it live and managed properly. We would especially welcome someone with experience of:

  • React / TypeScript front ends
  • Python / Django back ends
  • PostgreSQL
  • Docker
  • GitHub / repository management
  • Basic security, backups and deployment good practice

Just as important as technical skill is mindset. We want someone who can buy into our social purpose, work collaboratively with a volunteer‑led organisation, and help translate technical complexity into sensible next steps. Someone strategic, pragmatic and mission‑led would be a very strong fit. Individuals, freelancers, or small digital agencies willing to support on a pro bono or volunteer basis are all of interest.

What will you be doing?

The Safety Net Foundation has had a bespoke digital platform built for its mentoring and community model. The platform and full intellectual property have now been handed over to us, and we are looking for a skilled volunteer to help us review, take ownership of, and launch it properly. This is not a blank‑sheet build. The platform already exists and includes mentoring functionality, user registration, admin capability, community features and supporting infrastructure documentation.

What we now need is someone who can step in as a trusted technical lead to assess what has been delivered, advise on the best hosting route, support deployment to a live server, and help us establish the right foundations for ongoing ownership, maintenance and future development. Initially, the role will focus on understanding the codebase and technical documentation, advising on server and hosting options, supporting domain/subdomain and DNS setup, helping connect the platform into our existing website journey, and giving us confidence that the platform is secure, usable and sustainable.

Longer term, this person could become a vital part of our organisation’s leadership journey by helping shape our digital roadmap, support enhancements, and guide how the Foundation uses technology to expand mentoring, opportunity and access for the people we exist to serve.
