Operations Coordinator @ The S&A Academy

Overview

To deliver high-quality teaching, learning and assessment of Functional Skills Maths and English (Level 1 and Level 2) to apprentices undertaking a range of apprenticeship programmes. The role involves managing a personal caseload of learners, delivering engaging online sessions, and ensuring timely achievement of Functional Skills qualifications in support of apprenticeship completion. The position requires strong organisational skills, the ability to manage one’s own diary, and a commitment to inclusive learning practices, particularly for learners with Additional Learning Needs (ALN).

Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging, interactive, and inclusive online sessions in Functional Skills Maths and English (Predominantly Level 2 with occasional Level 1).
  • Carry out diagnostic assessments to identify learner starting points and set individual learning plans.
  • Provide tailored support and differentiated delivery to meet the needs of all learners, including those with ALN.
  • Assess learner work accurately, providing constructive feedback and supporting continuous improvement.
  • Adhere to awarding body and organisational policies for assessment, verification, and quality assurance.
  • Work collaboratively with apprenticeship instructors, tutors, and quality teams to support learner achievement.
  • Maintain current knowledge of Functional Skills specifications, assessment frameworks, and digital delivery practices.

Personal Specification

  • Recognised teaching/training qualification (e.g. AET/PTLLS, Cert Ed, PGCE, or equivalent).
  • GCSE or equivalent at Grade C/4 or above in Maths and English.
  • Experience delivering Functional Skills Maths and English at Levels 1 and 2, ideally within apprenticeship programmes.
  • Proven ability to support learners with Additional Learning Needs (ALN).
  • Strong understanding of Functional Skills standards, assessment methods, and quality requirements.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills, with ability to manage own diary and caseload effectively within set timescales to meet targets and deadlines.
  • Confident in using online delivery platforms (e.g. Teams, Zoom) and digital learning tools (e.g. BKSB).
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to motivate and engage learners remotely.
