The role
The primary responsibility of the Director in GDI is to develop and oversee the growth of our portfolio of impact work in the South East Asia (SEA) and selectively, the broader Asia-Pacific (APAC) region, leveraging GDM technologies. GDI develops, creates access and drives adoption of GDM applications to tackle some of humanity’s biggest challenges related to science, health, energy, education, weather and more. We also catalyse the use of AI to benefit humanity in the chosen areas. This role requires a proactive and entrepreneurial leader capable of leading a team in identifying opportunities, building new initiatives, and delivering impactful solutions, in strong alignment with GDI’s overall priorities.
Key responsibilities
Partnering closely with the GDI Leadership team to:
- Understand GDI’s strategy, priorities, and feasibility and impact potential in APAC, to translate into roadmap
- Identify and secure a range of impact opportunities and partners to deploy them with, leveraging GDM technologies and expertise
- Manage high profile, large scale, complex and/or sensitive impact opportunities
- Drive opportunities to proof points through driving progress in solutions, identifying major opportunities to catalyse impact, impact partner accountability, aligning problem statements and outputs, translating them to milestones, and establishing transparent communication, with clear expectations
- Ensure prioritization of a pipeline of highly credible proof points
- Collaborate closely with portfolio leaders and alliance managers to support the realization of their goals
- Drive regular communication of proof points and the progress of impact opportunities, for both external and internal use
- Work closely with APAC Engineering and Research teams to ensure technical feasibility of the impact opportunities
- Represent Google DeepMind and its interests in a range external forums
- Develop strong relationships across Alphabet APAC
- Provide leadership and guidance to the team on the ground
About you
In order to set you up for success as a Lead at Google DeepMind, we look for the following skills and experience:
- Demonstrated success in an entrepreneurial leadership capacity, building new businesses, developing impactful solutions, and scaling high-performing teams from inception.
- Extensive experience and proven success identifying technology/market fit and opportunities, securing, managing and delivering them, within the technology sector
- Deep knowledge and understanding of the APAC market, understanding cultural differences and ecosystem, and experience getting things done across the APAC region
- A strong understanding of the strengths and limitations of AI
- Understanding of nature of AI development and deployment and what technology can and cannot do, beyond GenAI
- Ability to demonstrate credibility with research/ technical audiences,
- Exceptional communication skills and experience building inspiring stories for impact
- Ability to build and develop meaningful long term relationships with key stakeholders, internally and externally
- Experience operating at the intersection of business and technology and accustomed to working with C-level stakeholders in both domains
- Experience in working with different cultures and comfortable adapting communication style to enable effective collaboration
- Independent self-starter, able to deliver impact
