Our interdisciplinary team combines the best techniques from deep learning, reinforcement learning and systems neuroscience to build general-purpose learning algorithms and apply these to medicine and healthcare. We have already made a number of high profile breakthroughs towards building artificial general intelligence for medicine.
The Business and Corporate Development team is vital to achieving DeepMind\’s mission. We cultivate strategic partnerships to further research priorities and maximise impact. Our work involves developing and shaping research collaborations and partnering opportunities to support GDM Science efforts (and beyond) and model developments, like AlphaProteo or GNOME. This team leverages a deep understanding of Google DeepMind\’s research and strategies to identify partners and execute groundbreaking opportunities.
This role will have a particular focus on supporting science related business development opportunities in-region, working closely with relevant Google DeepMind Science Research Leads, Project Managers, Researchers, Product Managers and others.
Job responsibilities
The Business and Corporate Development team at Google DeepMind work closely with GDM AI Researchers and Leadership to link research and business strategy to business development opportunities. By collaborating with cross-functional teams and other Google Partnerships/CorpDev teams, we identify, shape, negotiate, and manage strategic external partnerships to accelerate Google DeepMind\’s mission.
Google DeepMind’s research depends on a wide range of internally-generated and externally-sourced data, as well as access to external domain experts and tools/facilities. To that end, this role will be critical in driving partnerships and collaborations to support these needs, including:
- Develop a deep understanding of Google DeepMind’s Science research, product and business strategy and connect them to business opportunities. Serve as lynchpin between internal teams and external partners.
- Partner with team leads and internal stakeholders to proactively identify new opportunities, explore options to accelerate impact, assess risks and ethics and initiate or further engagement with Industry, Government and Academia.
- Work with other GDM and Google teams to identify external opportunities, key partners and emerging trends.
- Shape and negotiate agreements with external partners to carry out joint research and development, technology deployment, acquire assets, product partnerships, m&a etc.
- Lead cross-functional teams on key transverse strategic initiatives, managing coordination with teams such as Research, Product, Legal, Operations, Finance, Strategy and Operations, Policy & Program Management.
- Establish internal connections and serve as GDM PoC for key external partners in region
Minimum qualifications
- PhD in science, medicine, engineering or equivalent practical experience
- 5+ years of experience in business development, strategic negotiations and partnership management in a high growth deep science environment
- 5+ years of experience negotiating research and product partnerships in a Research & Development setting (Academic or Corporate) and commercialising related technologies
- Experience structuring deals and handling technical, contractual and financial issues
Preferred qualifications
- Experience working with machine learning applied to Science and Health
- Experience shaping quantitative business models in APAC
- Strong stakeholder management experience, comfortable working with researchers, engineers, government and industry partners
- Strong oral and written communication skills
