How you’ll contribute to our mission:
- Supervise the day-to-day operations at one of RZSS locations (Edinburgh Zoo or Highland Wildlife Park), including the maintenance and refurbishment of all buildings, enclosures, facilities and infrastructure owned by RZSS.
- Take the day-to-day lead to ensure all assigned works, repairs and projects are delivered effectively, safely, on time and to budget, and recommend cost-effective opportunities to minimise the impact of its operations on the environment.
- Supervise areas such as electrical, plumbing, gas servicing/heating, roofing, fire/intruder alarms, automatic doors, drainage, lift maintenance, aircon/refrigeration maintenance, PPM/compliance works, and any other duties as required.
- Highlight any issues where relevant plant and equipment require maintenance and ensure documentation is kept, meeting relevant legislation and best practice standards at all times.
- Ensure all sub-contractors work to RZSS guidelines.
- Maintain a consolidated stock list of all materials and order supplies required for daily operations according to formal procedures set down by RZSS, maximising value for money.
- Ensure that all relevant record systems, inspections and testing in line with legislation for park and building infrastructure are maintained and up to date.
- Work collaboratively with other sections and departments to ensure all work is scheduled, coordinated and monitored effectively, providing guidance and advice relating to your trade when required.
- Keep customers updated on progress and provide technical support where required to allow work to be estimated accurately.
- Work with the wider team to input into project designs and builds, coordinating departmental requirements, ensuring that legislation is met and budgets are set and monitored throughout the project.
- Highlight and assist with site risks, ensuring key stakeholders are prompted to complete their actions on time.
- Ensure that all areas of the site are safe and well presented for visitors in accordance with agreed service standards and in a cost-effective manner.
What we’re looking for:
- Relevant City and Guilds certification or S/NVQ Level 3 or equivalent experience.
- Up-to-date knowledge and understanding of basic building-related health and safety legislation.
- Working knowledge of the risk assessment processes.
- Understanding of basic principles of structural design relevant to a multi-trade environment, and ability to work to design drawings.
- Experience of the maintenance and construction of buildings and similar structures.
- Working to the parameters of CDM, building and health and safety regulations.
