The role involves supervising the effective and efficient function of the busy and complex animal stores section of the Animal Care Department at Edinburgh Zoo in line with agreed procedures and quality standards produced by the Animal Stores Team Leader and in support of RZSS’ vision and mission.
Some of the things you’ll do:
- Manage the complete process for animal feed delivery, including ordering, taking receipt, ensuring appropriate storage, preparation and distribution to various animal sections throughout the site.
- Proactively manage the safe and effective storage of food items by liaising with managers, other departments, contractors and staff, as required to resolve issues.
- Proactively manage stock levels, including allocated annual and other appropriate regular stock takes.
- Maintain stock control records and other stock control activities in line with agreed procedures and standards.
- Proactively manage the clean condition of the stores section, including the Stores yard, browse store, hayshed, walk-in fridges, freezers, Vehicle gate, yard, office and vehicles, and report all items requiring maintenance as set out in the relevant Safety procedures.
- Proactively monitor section safety, ensuring staff, volunteers, and visitors are following health & safety regulations and procedures, while following training provided for manual handling.
- Supervise the day-to-day running operation of the Animal Stores, reporting any issues to the Animal Stores Team Leader.
- Be a point of contact for volunteers and interns and provide training, ensuring they are safe within the Animal Stores environment.
- Supervise deliveries in and out of perimeter gates, ensuring contractors are aware and understand on-site driving policies and adhere to them.
What we’re looking for:
- Educated to standard grade level or equivalent qualifications.
- Sound knowledge and understanding of stock control systems.
- Full UK driving licence (driving is required as part of the role).
- Practical knowledge about animal dietary knowledge.
- Accuracy and attention to detail in record-keeping and stock control.
