Our EDI strategy ensures equitable opportunities for all individuals regardless of background or circumstances. The Diversity & Inclusion Team supports the Royal Society to embed DEI into all its activities, produce data and insight, and engage with stakeholders to promote awareness and understanding of DEI in STEM. The team works closely with the Royal Society Diversity and Inclusion Committee and partners with other learned societies and academies.

Core Responsibilities

  • Work closely with HR to support the ambition of becoming a truly inclusive employer.
  • Collaborate with the Learning & Development Manager to improve knowledge, awareness and understanding of DEI across the Society.
  • Support staff networks to thrive, listening to and learning from staff from diverse backgrounds.
  • Work with Communications teams to promote DEI internally and externally, embed diverse imagery and inclusive language, and promote the Society’s DEI work.
  • Support development of tools, policies, guidance and frameworks to implement inclusive practices across teams and the organisation.
  • Develop general and bespoke DEI resources, including Equality Act resources, and provide learning & development, commissioning inclusion training based on identified needs.
  • Design and deliver learning experiences, communications and engagement plans with HR and staff networks.
  • Co‑create DEI resources, learning and training with the Inclusion Officer (Practices).
  • Evaluate impact of resources, development and training to drive continual improvement.
  • Support the Society to commit to DEI accreditation schemes and deliver corresponding actions.
  • Support the three staff networks by ensuring effective delivery plans, events and celebrations.
  • Raise awareness of DEI across the Society and develop inclusive language and imagery strategies.
  • Support celebration of Awareness Days and other events with staff networks, HR, L&D and other teams.
  • Stay up to date with best practice and research, sharing and applying knowledge within the organisation.
  • Support the administration of the D&A team, including organising meetings, activities and maintaining intranet pages.
