Do you have a keen eye for detail and experience in system migrations? We are seeking a Test Engineer to support a critical upgrade project—having experience in API testing and working with third-party vendor systems would be a great advantage. We are seeking an experienced Test Engineer to join our team on a 12-month fixed term contract to support the functional testing of a key system upgrade and migration project. The role will focus on ensuring the quality and stability of an upgraded membership management system, which integrates with various other platforms via APIs. This is a great opportunity for a detail-oriented Test Engineer with strong functional testing and API testing skills. A basic understanding of test automation would be a plus but is not a core requirement.

At the RSC we embrace flexibility and offer hybrid working, which means our teams come together when they need to collaborate. Although this role is contractually based at our Cambridge office, you will be able to work from home within the UK, with the expectation that you will attend the office as needed for your role. In this role it is expected that you will attend the office one day per week. If you need flexible working arrangements, please outline this in your application.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute test plans, test cases, and test scripts for functional testing of the upgraded system.
  • Perform API testing to ensure seamless integration between the upgraded system and other platforms.
  • Identify, document, and track defects, collaborating with internal teams and third-party vendors for resolution.
  • Conduct regression testing to ensure system stability after upgrades and changes.
  • Work closely with Subject Matter Experts, Business Analysts, Developers, and Project Managers to clarify requirements and expected system behaviour.
  • Support User Acceptance Testing (UAT) by providing test scenarios, assisting stakeholders in validating the system, and actively running and managing the UAT process, including executing tests themselves.
  • Provide insights into test automation opportunities, though the primary focus remains on manual testing.

Essential Skills & Experience:

  • Strong experience in functional testing for system upgrades, migrations, or similar transformation projects.
  • Proficiency in API testing (e.g., using Postman, SoapUI, or similar tools).
  • Experience working with third-party vendor-managed systems and understanding integration challenges.
  • Strong defect management and reporting skills, using tools like JIRA or similar.
  • Experience in test planning, test execution, and documenting test results.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
