We are looking for a Senior Internal Communications Specialist (Content) to join our growing Internal Communications team on a 12-month fixed term contract. This is an exciting moment to join us. We are building a new team and undergoing a period of organisational change, and while this role is initially fixed term, there is real potential for it to become permanent as our plans develop.

You will develop and deliver a high-impact internal content strategy, ensuring every message is clear, compelling, inclusive and aligned with our change agenda. You will shape storytelling, set editorial standards and employ a range of creative techniques to create written and digital content. Working closely with the Senior Internal Communications Specialist (Channels), you will also partner with key business areas to support them to deliver effective communications strategies to bring the RSC's vision to life. While we are looking for someone who can use tools to create engaging visual and audio content, this isn’t a graphic design role.

What you will be doing:

  • Content strategy and governance
    • Develop and maintain the Internal Comms Content Strategy: tone of voice, inclusion standards, plain English and preferred formats.
    • Chair an Editorial Board with intranet content editors embedded in each team.
  • Message Development
    • Partner with business stakeholders to craft key messages for major initiatives, campaigns and change programmes.
    • Lead content “deep dives” to translate complex technical or policy updates into user-friendly narratives.
  • Creative formats and channels
    • Own end-to-end content production for video scripts, infographics, podcasts, case studies and written articles.
    • Commission or create multimedia assets, working with designers, videographers and subject-matter experts.
    • Carry out research and testing to help the RSC keep up to date with the latest trends and maintain an evidence-based approach.
  • Inclusion and accessibility
    • Embed best practices for plain English, accessible design and diversity of imagery.
    • Run periodic audits of published content for bias, jargon and readability.
  • Measurement and continuous improvement
    • Carry out content-testing to identify what works and what doesn’t.
    • Define and track content KPIs.
    • Use insights to iterate content strategy.
  • Line management
    • Manage the Internal Communications Officer, supporting them to reach their full potential.

At the RSC we embrace flexibility and offer hybrid working, which means our teams come together when they need to collaborate. Although this role is contractually based at our Cambridge or London office, you will be able to work from home within the UK. You will be expected to attend our Cambridge office on a quarterly basis for a directorate team meeting, and attend the Cambridge/London office as and when required for business need. If you need flexible working arrangements, please outline this in your application.

What we are looking for:

  • Demonstrable experience in a strategic communications role, designing, delivering and measuring campaigns.
  • Proven track record of content strategy, planning and governance — including tone of voice, editorial standards and accessibility.
  • Exceptional writing and storytelling skills, with the ability to translate complex information into clear, engaging content for diverse audiences.
  • Hands-on experience producing content across multiple formats — written articles, video scripts, infographics, podcasts.
  • Data-driven approach to content, using testing and KPIs to iterate and improve.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with experience working across cross-functional teams.
  • Proactive, curious and comfortable working with ambiguity in a fast-moving environment.

If you are interested in this role, please apply before the end of the closing date. When applying, you will need to provide an up-to-date CV and a cover letter (in no more than 500 words) telling us about your relevant knowledge, skills and competencies and why you are applying for this role. Please note, the closing date for this role is 23:59 on 07/04/2026.
