The post holder will be a senior physician in the Gastrointestinal (GI) Department at The Royal Marsden Hospital, reporting to the Head of the GI Unit and working within the Division of Cancer Services.
Responsibilities:
- Supervise (clinical and educational supervision) doctors in training in the GI team and undertake teaching as appropriate.
- Attend the unit‑specific multidisciplinary meetings (MDMs), clinics and departmental meetings.
- Lead inpatient board rounds and reviews on the designated days.
- Participate in and support the multidisciplinary care team, which includes medical oncologists, clinical oncologists, surgeons, junior team members, specialist nursing staff, therapists, dieticians, social workers, palliative care, and counselling professionals for patients and families.
- Participate fully in peer‑review preparation and visits, and conduct required peer‑review audits.
- Provide leadership and support for the development of GI unit‑specific services discussed within the six‑month operational policy meetings.
- Contribute to the development of departmental objectives and manage resources within the approved plan, reporting to the Divisional Medical Director.
- Work closely with consultant colleagues in other oncology services across South‑West London and RM Partners and participate in related meetings.
- Seek ways of improving the efficiency of the service without sacrificing quality.
